Persephone

I just love the myth of Persephone, i mean the real, original version of it, because it’s not like she got kidnapped, no, this bitch was la-de-da-ing in a meadow and she just happened to find an entrance to the Underworld and she was like “Imma check this out”. And she just wanders into the Underworld and discovers that hey this place ain’t too bad.
Meanwhile Hades is in the background “????? UM??? PRETTY GIRL??? WHY ARE YOU HERE?????? YOU AREN’T DEAD???”
And Persephone (who was originally called Kore just a little fyi) just looked at him and said “I like it here. I’m staying.”
And Hades kinda just went with it, until Demeter started throwing the temper tantrum of the millenium upstairs and Zeus had to intervene because this shit was getting out of hand and its actually his job to be admistrator of justice. Which considering the shit he gets up to is kinda histerical but that’s another story there.
And basically Persephone wasn’t a prisoner or kidnap victim at all she just really loved the Underworld and her (eventual) husband, and the Greeks feared her arguably more than her husband because Hades could be reasoned with but Persephone was the one laying the smack down on sinners, and really, who wouldn’t be at least a little scared of someone who’s name means something along the lines of “the destroyer”
Basically, Persephone is amazing and everbody needs to get on her level
i think the best part of that myth is that Zeus decided to change Kore’s name to Persephone (basically “the one who brings chaos”) only because she wanted to stay in the underworld and SHE WOULDN’T FUCKING LISTEN then Zeus, all-mighty king of the gods, kinda gives up and goes “fine, but you’re going to visit your mom” “also, I changed your name” “get rekt”
Also, if I’m not mistaken, Kore means “little girl” so imagine going from that to “chaos bringer”
I mean, going from little girl to chaos bringer sounds like a p solid deal to me, sign me up.

Salt Circle PSA!

Attention witches! DO NOT…I repeat…PLEASE DO NOT MAKE SALT CIRCLES OUTSIDE!
Salt circles are used in ritual for protection around the contents of the circle. If you wanna make a salt circle, do so in your kitchen or on cement. But salt kills all the grass and flowers in that area, and it will stay dead for sometimes years. You will have a circle of dead grass there for a long time so please, do NOT do salt circles outside.

Casual reminder

Make sure to save old pasta sauce jars and pickle jars. You can use these after you clean them out for spell jars and herb storage. Delicious and resourceful!

‘Give me Sunshine’ Potion for Happiness

image
I think I have a new favorite beverage! This potion is quick and easy to make – ideal for college witches, new witches, and even children! The recipe itself can be enjoyed as a non-witch beverage too.

Ingredients:

- milk (or milk substitute)
- vanilla or honey
- cinnamon, cloves, or nutmeg

Process:

1. Pour a glass of milk. Add vanilla or honey, depending on what you have. I used ¼ tsp of vanilla in mine. Using either a spoon or your finger, stir the glass counter-clockwise to banish negativity. Put the glass in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds.
2. Add cinnamon, cloves, or nutmeg as desired. I used both cloves and cinnamon in mine.
  • nutmeg - luck, love, clairvoyance
  • cinnamon - happiness, luck, wealth
  • cloves - luck, protection, love
3. Stir the beverage clockwise to promote positivity and activate your ingredients.
Enjoy!

Witch Tip

Collect rocks and draw sigils on them. Place them around your home on surfaces like windowsills, desks, altars, etc. Not only will they charge your living space with magic, they’ll look cute too!

When Your Spell Fails

No witch succeeds with their spells 100% of the time. here’s a short list of reasons why it could have happened and some solutions

possible reasons why:

distraction - a spell you’re not invested in isn’t going to have much power behind it. if you’re concentrated more on you. if you cast a motivation spell while planning out your vacation, it’s going to subtract from that motivation.
rosemary replaces everything - supposedly. it supplies general power, but if you add nothing into the spell that has any real meaning to you, then what is that power supposed to do? where does that energy go with no direction?
associations - the correspondences everyone else lists for herbs and stones and planets can be very useful, but sometimes you have a personal conflicting association. perhaps lavender is gross to you, and not peaceful at all. then that dream sachet isn’t going to give you peaceful dreams.
didn’t help the spell - magic does not exist in a vaccum. spells can only do so much, but if you don’t make the effort, it much less likely to work. job spells dont work if you don’t fill out applications, love spells don’t work if you don’t go out and talk to people, and so on.
too many cooks - if you cast 10 love spells, and yet no one is attracted to you, it’s entirely possible they all did work but they all conflicted with each other, and ended up canceling each other out.
shot for the stars- sometimes you try to achieve something, and you set your expectations too high. either it’s impossible, you’re trying from the wrong angle, or you didn’t get as much as you wanted.
cancellation - sometimes a spell may appear not to work when it does, but the results are invisible because it canceled something else out. say you cast a money spell and get no extra cash after several weeks, it could be just helping you maintain your current income and blocking extraneous expenses.
impatience - unless you programmed a working time limit into it, the spell could be working and you just don’t see the results yet. these things can take time.
out of your depth - if you don’t feel like you’re ready to do a spell, your lack of confidence or discomfort can either disable the spell or not give it enough power to work

what to do:

  • take a break, ground, cleanse, and give it time. refocus your intentions
  • contemplate each ingredient and step in the spell, and modify
  • use the ingredients that you know best work for you, old standards hold up.
  • think about what you could do to help the spell work. what mundane methods haven’t you tried?
  • take a step back and look at it realistically. is there another angle you can approach this from, can you break it down into smaller steps?
  • return to the spells you are comfortable doing, and work from there.

My Happy Home spell bottle!

My Happy Home spell bottle!

If you know me then you’ll know that over the past few years I’ve had a series of not-so-ideal living situations. I’ve had the room next to the kitchen, I’ve had incredibly messy roommates, and just all around bad situations that have left me with a lot of bad feelings. That’s where this little guy comes in.

I created this little spell bottle to dispel any bad feelings that I may be holding on to and to help create a happy environment, for not only myself but my housemates to live in. As I added each herb, I said aloud the purpose and job that herb had in creating a peaceful living space.

This bottle (starting from the bottom) contains:
- Rosemary: for cleansing and creating a clean slate
- Bay leaves: purification and removing my negative feelings
- Cloves: protection from negative energy - Salt: protection and safety
- Cinnamon: energy for myself and my housemates
- Thyme: happiness for anyone who enters our home
- Basil: harmony and pathways of communication
- Coriander: love and friendship

- Sealed with the wax of a lavender scented candle made by and given to me by one of my current housemates
Brilliant.

Storm Witch’s Ward Water

You will need:
° storm water
°thyme
° rosemary
° sage
°sandalwood
° salt
Put the solution into a dish and microwave until hot. Take a brush, dip it into the water and brush along the frames of your doors and windows. Once that is done, take the brush, dip it into the water, then flick the water into every corner of the room. Repeat the process with as many rooms that need to be cleansed.
You could easily use a small spray bottle to disperse the mixture around your home.
