Places to Put Sigils!

Below is a list of many places/ideas for you to put sigils. Sigils are probably one of the most simple, yet effective forms of magick, I use them all the time! If you’re lost for uses of them, I hope this helps!
Favourite Books- If there is a book you often read, you could put an important sigil on the back of the cover, so when you open the book you will see it. You could also use a protection sigil for the book. (Maybe on your grimoire?)
Mirrors- You can use whiteboard markers to put sigils in the corners of your mirror, so when you get ready in the morning, or whenever you’re near the mirror, you see the sigil. This is perfect for self-confidence or self-love sigils.
Sticky notes or cards- Draw a small sigil on small square of paper so you can fit it into a locket and wear it around your neck. This would be great for protection sigils, attraction sigils etc
Stationery- This one was asked in my ask box, whether you can carve sigils into pencils etc, and the answer is yes! You can put sigils on your stationery, or in your pencil case etc to encourage positive feedback in exams, concentration and happy studying
On calendars- If there is an important date coming up on the calendar, put a sigil on it, attracting positive vibes towards it!
Windows- Use a whiteboard marker and put sigils in the corner of the window to make sure you’re always looking at a happy sight. (I don’t know if many people would go to the effort to do this, but if you want, go for it!)
Sewn to clothes- You could embroider a sigil on the back side of a coat or piece of clothing to protect you. (choose one of those double fabrics, the ones that won’t go through to the other side)
On your body- If you can find non-toxic markers that you can use to draw on your skin, you could draw sigils on your upper thigh, or places where they are not so noticeable. This is good for body confidence sigils etc
Sentimental items- Draw a sigil on a sticky note and stick it to items of sentimental value to protect them, or maybe attract certain things concerned with the item
Bottom of your shoes- You could place sigils on the bottom of your shoes for protection when walking home.
Garden- You could make little ornaments for your garden with sigils on them to promote happy growing
Hairbrush- you could put a sigil on the handle of your hairbrush, to promote hair growth
You just have to get creative with it!!

Historical Witchcraft 101: Poppets

Poppets are a powerful and widespread form of sympathetic magic. They can be made out of a variety of materials, most commonly cloth or wax. They are typically used to represent a person, and can be used in a wide variety of spells.
There are a number of common ways of tying a poppet to a person:
  • dressing them in clothes made out of clothes owned by the target
  • making them out of clothes owned by the target
  • enclosing within them a slip of paper with the person’s identifying information written on it
  • enclosing hair/ nail clippings of the target
  • carving the target’s name into it
A poppet can also be made to represent a person who needs healing. The poppet can be stuffed with healing herbs.
A really interesting application of this I’ve heard is having one re-usable healing poppet, with a slot in the back for taglocks to focus the healing magic. The idea behind re-using it is that the healing magic surrounding the poppet builds up over time and becomes more and more effective.
The most well known application of a poppet to cursing is sticking it with pins or needles, but they can also be burned. There is a long history of using poppets in cursing:
  • For example, several rag dolls were discovered in Bridget Bishop’s old house during the Salem witch trials. They had been pierced with hogs’ bristles and pins.
  • As another example, Elizabeth Bradwell allegedly created a wax image of a man called John Moulton, and stuck a nail in its head and buried it.
  • One of the reasons King James I was so terrified of witchcraft was that in 1441, a noblewoman named Eleanor Cobham was accused of trying to kill him using a wax image poppet. However, she claimed the poppet was for a fertility spell.
  • Isobel Gowdie, in arguably one of the most famous European witch trials, confessed to making a poppet out of clay called a ‘corp creadh’. She and her coven claimed to roast it in the fire every time the wife of the local lord had a baby, in order to make the baby fall ill and die.

Another application of poppets are love spells: creating two poppets, one for each person, and binding them together.
Corn dollies are another form of poppet. They were traditionally made out of the last wheat of the harvest, as a ‘spirit house’ for the spirit of the wheat; although they were not always human shaped. It would then be ploughed into the first furrow of the season. However, corn husks can be used to make poppets for modern spells as the material is cheap and easy to get hold of.

Jar curse

You’ll need:
- A jar you never want to use ever again
- A piece of card with their name written on it- fold it a bit to make it nice and strong to stick needles through without hurting your hands. This is your taglock for them
- 9 Sewing needles
- 9 Tacks
- 9 pieces of paper with their name and their bad deeds written on it. Things like their name followed by “Abusive behavior”, “Know it all”, “Show off”, “Gossiper”, “Disrespect”. etc.
- Fire proof bowl
- Water in case you accidentally set your altar on fire (believe me if you’re not careful these things happen)
- Chilli powder
- Pepper
- Vinegar
- Your spit
- Cigarette ashes
- Black candle
- 2 plastic bags
The cursing bit:
- Cast a circle and invite your elements and deities if you work with any.
- Grab the taglock and think about how hurt and angry this person makes you feel. Direct the angry energy you are feeling into each of the 9 pins and tacks and stab the paper. Keep the tacks and needles stuck in the taglock.
- Put the taglock into your jar
- Summon all your anger and spit three times on the taglock
- Take the 9 pieces of paper with their name and bullshit behaviors on them and burn them inside your fire proof bowl. Keep the water handy in case the burning gets out of hand. As each paper burns say “I curse you [Insert name]. Your abuse will return back to you 9 fold.”
- Dump the paper ashes into the jar.
- On top of the ashes dump the chilli powder, pepper and vinegar and cigarette ashes. Say I curse you [Insert name] may these substances sting and burn as you have stung and burned me.
- put the lid on and shake the jar up. Focus on your target. Imagine a ball of black energy is forming inside you. Inside that black ball of energy, put all your painful memories of that person, their negative words, their bad attitude, their abuse, all of your hate and tears and pain, your internal screaming, everything about them that makes you angry. Channel that hateful energy out through your hand chakras and into the jar. Take plenty of time to do this and don’t stop focusing on it until you feel there is nothing left you can put in. The jar’s energy should feel really awful.
- Double bag the jar in the plastic bags and tie them shut. Take the bag outside in your back yard. If you have any left over residual hateful energy, now is the time to get rid of it. Summon any left over anger, scream and yell at the jar if you need to.Swear at it, anything. Then as forcefully as possible throw that jar and smash it. The energy will be released from the jar and find it’s target.
- Close the circle and smudge the hell out of yourself and anywhere in your house that the jar was.
-Leave the bag out overnight and collect the debris the next day inside the sealed plastic bags with no mess to clean up. That persons behavior deserves a rubbish tip, so in this case I wouldn’t feel bad for throwing it in a bin and having it sent to land fill. Just get that shit out of your life and send it to a disgusting place of no return.

From infusions and tinctures to oils and salves: The basics of herbal healing and the beginnings of any potion.

From infusions and tinctures to oils and salves: The basics of herbal healing and the beginnings of any potion

Decoction: A decoction is needed to extract the deeper essence from harder substances such as barks, roots and stems. Place the raw materials in a pot and fill it with fresh water. Simmer uncovered until the water lever is reduced by 1/3. Strain the resulting liquid to remove particulates then drink or use as needed. Infusion: Pour freshly boiled water over the desired herb or planar matter, roughly 8 ounces of water per teaspoon of dried plant parts. When using fresh herbs roughly 3 times as much is required.

Oil: Place flowers, herbs or other plant parts in a sealed glass container. Fill the container with an organic oil (ex: Olive, sesame, etc…) until it is an inch above the material being used. Place the bottle somewhere warm for 2 weeks, next to a stove while cooking, on the mantle, a sunny window sill, etc. Upend the container daily to ensure the oil saturates the material.

Ointment: Heat 2 cups of pure lard to frying temperature. Add 4 handfuls of crumbled dry herbs or 6 handfuls of chopped fresh herb to the lard. Stir to to blend and let simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat, cover and let sit over night. Reheat until liquid then mix in 4 tablespoons of an organic oil, this will prevent it hardening to much. Squeeze through a cheese clothe to remove solids and store in a crockery or glass container.

Salve: Mix 3 ounces of finely pulped plant parts, 7 ounces of lard and 1 ounce of beeswax. When thoroughly mixed simmer over low heat in active red pot for 1-2 hours. Remove from eat and allow to cool.

Tincture: A tincture uses alcohol to extract the properties of a herb or plant. Loosely fill a glass container with fresh or dried herbs and add some sort of food grade spirit (ex: vodka), vinegar can also be used for certain ingredients. Cork or otherwise seal the container and leave somewhere warm for 2 or more weeks.

witch tip

if you are holding on to anger towards someone (especially a person who is no longer in your life), sit in a quiet place, burn your favorite incense, and write that person a letter.  write down every single thought and emotion you feel towards that person. when you are done, burn the letter in a cauldron or fireproof bowl.  as you burn it, repeat out loud “you no longer have power in my life” until the letter has turned to ash.  collect the ash and use it to make black salt.

Spell to Purify a Second Hand Item

You will need:
  • Dried rosemary needles
  • Dried sage leaves
  • Dried thyme
  • Handful cedar chips
  • Fire safe bowl or cauldron
While many people love to buy things second hand to save money, a drawback to doing so is the energy, sometimes negative, which clings to these things and is still present when they become ours. These energies can be cleared easily, and it is preferable to do this on any item we will be exposing ourselves to regularly such as clothing or a vehicle.
Place the cedar chips in the bowl and light them. When they start to smoke, add the rosemary, sage, and thyme. Once everything has caught on fire a little and there is a good amount of smoke, slowly pass the item you are purifying through the smoke. If your item is too large to do this, such as a car, circle the item and waft the smoke around it with your hands. Say: rosemary, sage, and thyme, remove any evil which may dwell within. Cedar, clear this (item) and make it new. Smoke wash away the past. As I will it, so mote it be.
Allow the herbs and cedar chips to finish burning, and your item is now purified and ready for new ownership.
