✧witch tips✧

i’ve been practicing witchcraft on and off for the past 3 years and i really want to share some of the tips and tricks i’ve learned to help other witches, especially new witches, so here we go:
- i’ve got two words for you. bead. organizers. go to your local craft store and buy one for like 3 bucks and you have a really spacious way to organize any of your witchy materials. sure glass jars and bottles are cool, but save those for spells or particularly special ingredients.
-birthday candles and tea lights are my best friend. I’m still partially in the broom closet, so i have limited time and space to work with when practicing my craft, and these bad boys are absolutely perfect. plus birthday candles come in colors which you can incorporate into your spells
-mortar and pestle. i recently bought a one and it has improved my craft by like 500%. to new witches who are trying to figure out what they should purchase first, i highly recommend getting one. make sure you buy one that’s made for cooking even if you dont wish to consume anything you put in it, most sold in specialty shops aren’t effective at grinding(they’re too smooth). plus it just helps you feel more connected to your craft, which is always a bonus.
-scented candles. like, it’s a completely inconspicuous way to practice witchcraft. burn a rose scented candle for love magic, an “ocean” scented one if you’re a water witch, a sage one for cleansing, the possibilities are endless. (and even for ones that are combinations of several scents, just google the magickal correlations of the individual ingredients and see what they mean to you when they’re combined, color of the candle can also play a role in it if you want it too)
-cotton swabs/Qtips. if you reuse small containers these are a life saver, it saves you the time of having to wait for them to air dry. you can also use them to spread spells or etc, you can even use them as wands if you’re on a super tight budget(both air and cotton have correlations to air, and wands are generally considered instruments of the air)
-fire salt. fire salt is one of the first things i made when i started practicing witchcraft, and honestly it’s one of my favorites. fire salt is just salt combined with spices like pepper, red pepper, cinnamon, or anything else you consider to correlate with fire. you can use fire salt as a substitute for live flames in a spell, or you can fill a dish with it if you want to honor/pray to a deity but you can’t light a candle.
-hemp string/twine. for witches on a budget, hemp string can be found for really cheap at your local craft store, and it makes any project you’re working on feel 100% more witchy. and it’s not just for aesthetic purposes, hemp string tends to be less processed than other types of string, which will make everything you craft with it feel more natural and connected to the earth.
-digital grimoires/book of shadows. this blog is mostly text posts for a reason. it’s not that i dont love all the aesthetic witchy pictures on tumblr, but for me personally it helps to have a ton of information in one place without the distraction of pretty pictures. plus tumblr allows you to easily find posts related to one subject through the tags, and since I’m an extremely lazy witch, i prefer this to handwriting everything.

Inexpensive Witch Items for your craft #1

This will be my first post on places to get inexpensive items for you!

DOLLAR TREE!!! I can not explain my love for this store to be honest. Now it may be an obvious store for budget friendly people but I know many people may not think about going there for items for your altar, spells, etc but it is my go to place for all of my items! I will list below all of my favorite items you can get from there! Also they always get in new items all the time so I go quite frequently to see what I can pick up! And of course everything is $1 so to be honest it can’t get any better than that!
SALTS: 2lb boxes of sea salt, regular table salt, and they will even sometimes have pink Himalayan sea salt! Do I even have to mention why this is useful? Well I will anyway! Salt is like the boss of protection and purification. Use it in baths, spells, throw it around the house to keep negative things out, use it when you cast circles, etc. Salt is the bomb I my opinion. And why not get a huge box of it for $1?
SPICES AND HERBS: they have amazing spices to be honest. (Not just to use for cooking which I do) but they have cinnamon, parsley, ground sage, Basil, oregano, ground cloves, All spice, Ginger, etc. You can use these in jar spells, dream sachets, cooking spells, etc. They are fantastic especially for beginner witches who don’t want to spend tons on dried herbs or can’t find them locally outside in the wild or like those who live in a big city far from lots of nature where it’s hard to grow them yourself… Or for those who don’t have as much of a green thumb!
CANDLES!!! : THIS is one of my favorite sections at the dollar tree. You can probably get a better deal for bulk tea light candles somewhere else like Walmart but the dollar tree has amazing tall pillar candles, Scented candles, cute jar candles, Mason jar candles which obviously you can re-use for spells or storage! They have candles in different colors as well! For those who don’t like much flame they have great battery operated candles as well!
GLASS CONTAINERS AND JARS: THEY HAVE SO MANY GLASS OPTIONS! I love finding glass bowls, jars, vases, cups, etc you name it. All can be used for your altar for decor, spell work, collecting water, mixing stuff in, and anything else your little witchy heart desires to use for a glass container!
FOOD ITEMS: *PLEASE be aware to look at expiration dates and read labels. In my experience I’ve had no negative ones as of yet and I’m very sensitive to food and such* I Love getting my baking soda, sugar for offerings or spell jars, candies for offerings, sweets for the fae, jelly (I love their preserves they are delicious! The strawberry and raspberry ones are a house staple), Crackers, unsweetened apple sauce (it’s fantastic), teas (LOVEEEE THE TEAS they have fruit teas, camomile tea, green tea, black tea, and more) these are fabulous to use in spell work or just to drink, and mainly anything a kitchen witch or just a witch in general wants to use for offerings. *I do not advise on getting any meat or dairy products for obvious reasons. Though their vegan spring rolls are my go-to and the dark chocolate covered banana slices are also amazing in the freezer section along with their frozen fruit and vegetables I always make sure to get the ones grown in the USA. * Fruit infuser tumbler cups! Need I say more?
CRAFT SUPPLIES: GLITTER, PENS, PENCILS, STICKERS, TAPE, FLORAL WIRE, FAKE FLOWERS, WREATH WIRE, FLORAL FOAM, WOODEN DOWELS, GLUE, ROCKS, SHELLS, SAND, YOU NAME IT ITS ALL THERE!!!! Anything you could possibly need for your journal, spell books, spells, etc. Everything is there!
BATH SUPPLIES: GLAMOUR, RESTORATING, AND SELF LOVE BATHS HELLO! they sell Epsom salt, good bubble baths, bath loofas, scrubs, soaps, anything your heart would want for a bath spell! I love getting my favorite brown sugar vanilla bath soap mix it with some Epsom salt and sea salt throw in some green or black tea and have myself a self love and clearing bath!
There are a lot more wonderful things that can be found at your local dollar tree! Those are all the top categories that came to my mind. Next blog post will be on online websites that have inexpensive things for my lovely witches out there! Sending blessings to you all!

Rosewater Tutorial

Rosewater Tutorial

To go along with the rose theme, I just had to whip up a batch of rose water and share how easy it is with you all~
So here we go!
First we want to collect our rose petals of course. Do not use florist roses! They are covered in pesticides and other undesirables. Get some roses from your garden, or anyone’s garden who will let you take some (as long as they’re chemical free). A little goes a long way, so I’d gather about a cup of petals for starters.
Next we want to rinse them off, to clean them of any pollen or bugs, or who knows what. Clean those suckers off.
Now put them in a saucepan and add the water. Generally, 2 cups of pure water to 1 cup of petals is a good rule of thumb. (I honestly didn’t even measure… I live life on the wild side.)
Simmer until the soul of the petals leaves them and enters the water…! Basically the color and fragrance will transfer to the water. This will take about 20-30 minutes, but make sure you keep the burner on LOW. You do not want to boil these, it will ruin them. I kept mine between the 1 and 2 setting, but your stove may be different. Just get the water hot but not boiling.
Now strain and voila! You have some awesome rose water. Do some lovely magic with it. Create tinctures, ointments, jams, teas, or even a soothing magic bath. You can even cook with it. (Share some recipes with me if you have some!)
Rosewater keeps for about a week, refrigerated. You can also add a teaspoon of vodka to it to help preserve it for longer.

Places to Put Sigils!

Below is a list of many places/ideas for you to put sigils. Sigils are probably one of the most simple, yet effective forms of magick, I use them all the time! If you’re lost for uses of them, I hope this helps!
Favourite Books- If there is a book you often read, you could put an important sigil on the back of the cover, so when you open the book you will see it. You could also use a protection sigil for the book. (Maybe on your grimoire?)
Mirrors- You can use whiteboard markers to put sigils in the corners of your mirror, so when you get ready in the morning, or whenever you’re near the mirror, you see the sigil. This is perfect for self-confidence or self-love sigils.
Sticky notes or cards- Draw a small sigil on small square of paper so you can fit it into a locket and wear it around your neck. This would be great for protection sigils, attraction sigils etc
Stationery- This one was asked in my ask box, whether you can carve sigils into pencils etc, and the answer is yes! You can put sigils on your stationery, or in your pencil case etc to encourage positive feedback in exams, concentration and happy studying
On calendars- If there is an important date coming up on the calendar, put a sigil on it, attracting positive vibes towards it!
Windows- Use a whiteboard marker and put sigils in the corner of the window to make sure you’re always looking at a happy sight. (I don’t know if many people would go to the effort to do this, but if you want, go for it!)
Sewn to clothes- You could embroider a sigil on the back side of a coat or piece of clothing to protect you. (choose one of those double fabrics, the ones that won’t go through to the other side)
On your body- If you can find non-toxic markers that you can use to draw on your skin, you could draw sigils on your upper thigh, or places where they are not so noticeable. This is good for body confidence sigils etc
Sentimental items- Draw a sigil on a sticky note and stick it to items of sentimental value to protect them, or maybe attract certain things concerned with the item
Bottom of your shoes- You could place sigils on the bottom of your shoes for protection when walking home.
Garden- You could make little ornaments for your garden with sigils on them to promote happy growing
Hairbrush- you could put a sigil on the handle of your hairbrush, to promote hair growth
You just have to get creative with it!! I’ll post more soon! xx

How to Read Tarot Cards When You Don’t Know Shit

OR: HOW I STOPPED WORRYING AND LEARNED TO LOVE PRACTICING TAROT
This is a simple exercise I’ve done really to hone my intuition while divining. I like to pull a three card spread (past, present, future) but you can really use whichever spread you’d like.
Major Arcana:
  • Most trump cards can be self explanatory if you’re good at word association.
  • The Fool card starts a story that follows a journey through to the World, the end. Everything in between is character development.
  • Death does not mean death. Unlike most horror films, its appearance can actually signal a new beginning or change.
Minor Arcana:Know what each suit means or symbolizes in general.
  • Cups: Water, focuses on your emotional self, creativity and romance, following your heart over your head.
  • Pentacles: Earth, focuses on your physical self, material ideas like business or wealth, manifestation.
  • Swords: Air, focuses on your mental self, action and concentration, intelligence and conflict.
  • Wands: Fire, focuses on your spiritual self, intuition and inspiration, values and flaws.
All in All:
  • Use the context clues in the imagery of your cards to guide your intuition.
  • Don’t worry about misreading a card or getting anything wrong. This is really about trusting yourself and your gut instincts.
  • Don’t be afraid to take the surface value of the card during this exercise. It’s just an exercise.
I hope this helped you if you’re just starting out, want to try a different method to divining with tarot, or just want to generally work on trusting your gut.

Upcycling Jars, Bottles, and Other Glass Containers.

I cook ALOT. I’m quite proud of my little collection of herbs, spices, teas, legumes, and other dried edibles. Not so much for the actual contents, but for the fact that 90% of the glass containers were upcycled. I saved my kimchi jars, pasta sauce jars, pickle jars, jam jars, booze jars - errrr, whatever I bum off the bartender, and etc. I especially love using the Canada Dry tonic water bottles for my spices; the wine corks I save fits the perfectly as a stopper! The rest of my containers are usually rescued from flea markets and thrift shops.
I encourage everyone to find a place in their homes for glass packaging. Keep them out of the dumpster.

Witchy Crafts

I’ve been scouring pinterest lately for witchy crafts, and here are some I’ve found, along with what I would use them for!
  • Wall Hanging - Okay so I made a really cool wall hanging for someone a while ago, and with their permission, I enchanted it to bring motivation, happiness, and warmth to their space. I feel like you could do the same with any wall hanging. I added braids, chestnut halves, and even color coordinating yarn to make mine.
  • Star Light Garland - Great for Cosmic Witches! Or for those of you who need a little light around your altar, around your bed for soft light, etc.
  • Flower Candle Holders (Plaster Dipped Flowers) - Yes, you can buy these already made, but aren’t the ones linked so awesome? I think it makes perfectly preserved flowers to keep all year, and the flame of the candle might help draw their energy out!
  • Concrete Dragon Egg Candle Votives - While we’re on the topic of candle holders, why not take a look at these amazing ‘dragon egg’ ones? If you work with dragon spirits, or really any animal/creature spirit with eggs, it will look amazing on your altar!
  • Watercolour Painted Pillow - For all of you who use magic to work your way into your dreams, or are looking for a fun way to calm yourself before bed, try this! You can even paint it with moon water!
  • Dream/Wish Jar - All you have to do is write down your dreams/wishes on the paper of your choice, and throw them in a jar. I suggest making matching sigils for each one, and burning them at the full moon. I made one, and it looks so cute in my room! Super great for hidden witches!
  • Moon Rocks - I know, I know, not exactly a moon rock, but if you make these with moon water in place of regular water, and charge them under the full moon, they could stand in for the moon on cloudy nights, charge your crystals, etc.
  • DIY Essential Oil Diffuser Necklaces - Obviously, this is a really inconspicuous way to use essential oils! You could wear one for protection when you’re feeling unsafe, attract love on the days you want too, and even give them away as gifts to other witches!
  • DIY Detoxifying Activated Charcoal Soap - Okay, but how much witchery could you do with these? So much!! After you are finished cursing, or perhaps on the night of a full moon, you could scrub up with this and get all kinds of cleansed!
  • Ombre Mermaid Soap - All the yes. Sea witches could use this in Mermaid beauty bath spells, or give it up as an offering! They’re so pretty, and with a little enchantment, could be magical!
  • Jellyfish in a Bottle - Do you interact with spirits of the sea? Maybe Jellyfish? Then go ahead and capture their beauty with this awesome DIY, and use the bottle as a spirit vessel for your jellyfish guests!
  • Mini Natural Brushes (Brooms) - These are great for on the go witchery, or for painting out your spells. You can keep dried ‘brushes’ in mini altar kits to use as a besom, or use them as brushes for making sigils, etc.
  • Lay-Flat Storage Mat - Divination Supplies, witchy spell kits, enchanted jewelry- the opportunities are endless! Use black to keep the energy locked inside, and paint or draw sigils on it for an added boost!
  • DIY Hand Cast - Make your own palmistry guide using this neat craft. You can cast your hand and paint on it however you’d like!
  • Pressed Flower Candles - Preserve the beautiful energy of almost any flower by creating a candle with it! Burn the candle when you need the herb or flowers energy for your spell, and Make as many as you can while the flowers are blooming!
  • Wind Chimes - Perfect for alerting you of potential intruders, Wind chimes placed inside can add a natural, as well as witchy, flair to your space. If you hear it, but there is no wind, you’ll know someone has come to visit!
  • DIY Candles - Add your energy as you make these candles for a boost in your spells. There’s even a ‘Sprinkes’ candle you can enchant to grant wishes, and you can light this every year on your birthday.
  • Bird’s Nests - Yes, you can make a nest of your own! Using special herbs, you can make a home fit for a spirit, or use it as a shrine to the Air element.
  • Wooden Spoons (Personalized) - With a wood burner and some concentration, you too can make a Kitchen Wand! Enchant soups and pastas with special energy with your very own wooden Spoon Wand!
  • Gazing Ball - So, this isn’t exactly a crystal ball, but it will work just like a scrying mirror. Simply follow the directions, and, if you wish, exclude the additions to the sphere. Then, you’re good to go!
  • DIY Succulent Planters - Green witches, I got a DIY for you, too! Make these succulent planters, and put them near a window, especially if your altar is near by. They’ll provide protection and hardiness to your home and its defense systems!
  • Crystal Candle Votives - These crystals are 100% made by you. You can give them special intentions and colour them accordingly. Have fun making your own set of crystals!
  • Paper Leaf Garland - A little bit of nature for your altar! I know it isn’t real, but for those of you who can’t grow a plant near your altar, it will work beautifully!
  • Wish Bracelets -  I loved mine when I had it! They’re super fun to wear, and will be a discreet witchy project for you to try. Just make a wish, and wait for it to fall off!
  • Rustic Twig Ornaments - Use these as wards throughout your home, and enchant them to bring you whatever you need.
  • Button Bicycles - To help your spell get going, throw in a button bicycle! Use it inside poppets, sachets, etc.
  • Packaging Tape Image Transfers - These can help you label your herbs, crystals, and spell jars! Have fun coming up with cute designs and whimsical fonts!
  • Paper Envelopes - For those of you who send letters, write them, or use envelopes in your spells, you can create them using paper with this method!

Lauren Aletta has truly created a deck that speaks to my inner fashionista and social media marketer. The Lumina Tarot is a deck that is very playful and endearing in its voice yet still provides hard hitting insight. This deck is going to be one that I utilize in regards to my creative writing ventures and the implementation of out of the box ideas when I need to express myself visually. This deck is going to be used to help me conquer my creative blocks and create plans of action throughout my writing process.

Jeri Totten’s The Distant Past Tarot is easily one of my go to decks for any season but it is one that I will be using more often over the summer. I love this deck so much I actually have the original bridge size as well as the Tarot size of this deck. The Distant Past Tarot has such a sumptuous quality and voice and really speaks to the Pisces side of myself. The blue and green color scheme of this deck truly brings you to another world. This Tarot deck is going to be really beneficial for my healing process of self-love and appreciation of my life’s journey.

Brandy Eve Allen and her Invisible Light Tarot was love at first sight for me. Being a photographer myself, I knew that I needed to add this gorgeous deck into my collection. The Invisible Light Tarot is a remarkable deck that tells it like it is. It doesn’t hold back in its delivery of insight yet still evokes a sense of caring. The photography within this deck is fabulous and it is one that I will be using for coming into my personal power and deep introspective meditation. You can get lost in Brandy’s photography and there are so many layers to the cards. I am so excited to work more with this deck throughout the next few months.

Ana Tourian from LunaSolare is such an exceptional artist, friend and deck creator. The Hidden Waters Tarot is a deck that has changed the way I read Tarot forever. The Rorschach style artwork pulls you in and engulfs you in its magic. I love the deck so much that I purchased both the first printing and the second edition. This Tarot deck is one that I have used for several things like shadow work, accessing my subconscious, providing illumination and healing past traumas. I am so excited to continue working with it throughout this Summer. I know that this deck will be one that will hold me accountable for my growth and change me for the better.

Rose’s Room Dreamscape Creation Spell

LemonadeMermaid’s “Rose’s Room” Dreamscape Creation Spell:
This is a pop culture spell based on Steven Universe’s episode Rose’s Room. It’s to ensure that if you do try to lucid dream, your dreams are safe, happy and exactly what you want them to be.

What You’ll Need:

⦁ A Pink Satchel (Can be found in the Dollar Store in the party aisle)
⦁ A Rose Quartz to place inside the satchel (symbolizing pleasant, loving creation; if not small enough you can place the satchel on top or touching the quartz)
⦁ A Clear Quartz to place inside the satchel (symbolizing yourself and your creative potential which is limitless; same goes with clear quartz as with rose quartz with the sizing)
⦁ Mugwort (for powerful boost to your dreaming ability, can be purchased online at the links at the end or found wild roadside in some states North America and Europe)
⦁ Lavender (to ensure that only pleasant things enter your dreamscape that you create, can be bought at the links at the end or grown on your own)
⦁ The Contents of Your Favorite “Sleepy Time” or Chamomile Tea Bags or Loose Leaf (for a personal touch of yourself to your room so your sure that everything you create is exactly how you like it; just like your tea)
⦁ Pink Himalayan Salt (symbolizing your dreamscape in your room being an act of self-care, can be purchased at almost any grocery store)
⦁ A Mortar and Pestle (can be purchased at stores like TJ MAXX and Ross in the kitchen tools section for around $7)

Note: If you don’t like, use, or have tea, you can substitute with chamomile leaves or flowers that you can purchase online or grow on your own.

How To Get Started:

This is a spell to create a nice place for you to explore, relax, and/or just generally have fun in! If you’ve seen some of Steven Universe, you know that Steven can create virtually anything he wants in a specail room just for him. You have a room just like that in your mind! All you have to do is access it! This spell is just to help you get there.
Take your mugwort, lavender, and give them a nice grinding in your mortar and pestle. Once they’re at a suitable grind for you sprinkle the contents in your satchel. Hold your teabag in your hand and give it a nice big whiff with your sniff! Did you know that smells are one of the easiest ways to get yourself dreaming because one of the first sensations to be processed are smells? So hold it in your hand and feel the weight of it. Commit to memory how it feels to be holding it in your hand and while your sniffing it, think to yourself that this tea represents your interests, your likes, things that make you smile. You’re physically feeling what makes you happy! Remember how that feels! Now open your teabag and add the contents to your satchel. Hold the rose quartz and the clear quartz in your hand and commit their feeling to memory as much as you can as well. Add the crystals to your satchel as well. Take a teensie pinch of the pink salt and sprinkle it inside the satchel over the crystals. This is your dream-creating power! Leave the satchel underneath your pillow and get dreaming!

purple. (secondary color.)
soft energy.
noble, mysterious, wise, dignified.

  • dark purple: depth.
  • light purple: nostalgia.

primary colors are fundamental; they are the foundation of all colors. these are the building blocks, and they evoke an immediate response.
  • blue
  • yellow
  • red
secondary colors are products; they have the influence of primary colors, but are completely separate from them. they are innately more complex.
  • purple: red, blue
  • green: yellow, blue
  • orange: red, yellow

application to the craft:
any correspondence available to you is relative to your own experience and understanding. there is nothing more powerful or useful than the natural correspondences that you personally assign to colors, or anything else. your own instinct should guide you first and foremost. of course, it can be helpful to have a reference point for guidance.
while all things are subject to opinion, there are some hard realities; having certain imagery or associations can help build, elaborate, or specify your use and attachment to different colors.
  • blood is red. is blood violence, or life?
  • the sun is yellow. is sunshine burning, or joy?
use colors to inform choices about candles, or any other material you use in your craft. use colors to create art for your intentions. use colors as a focal point in meditation.
colors can be incorporated into nearly every aspect of the craft. alternatively, colors can be taken from nearly every aspect of the craft. deciding when to use colors can be just as powerful as choosing when to not use colors.
absence is as valuable as presence. colors are as much a tool as a pendulum, and learning more about their individual energy and utility can help you expand your craft.
