9 Easy-To-Find Ingredients Every Aspiring Witch Needs

  1. Sugar is used primarily as an attracting agent in magic, “sweetening” people to your wishes, whether they be potential lovers or business customers.
    - In Practice: Use to sweeten a business and draw in more customers. Sprinkle a little sugar in front of the entrance to work in order to draw people in. Add cinnamon for a boost, as cinnamon is considered extremely lucky.
  2. Mint can be used in your magical practice to make charms work faster, or to better prepare your mind and intentions to be aligned with the intentions of a charm. It can be used in a spray or sprinkle to increase the mental vibrations of a place, so putting it in a school or office is ideal.
    - In Practice: Mix a teaspoon of dried mint leaf in a cup of boiling water and let it come to room temperature. Add the cup of water to your hair as a rinse after you wash your hair and rinse it. When you rinse the mint tea out, make sure to scrub your scalp thoroughly. This will stimulate mental activity and remove dullness.
  3. Rosemary got its name from the Latin Rosmarinus meaning “dew of the sea” and is considered to have powerful properties across a wide range of magical traditions, though it’s typically used for protection and cleansing rituals. It can be placed under pillows, in pockets, or secured in infant bedrooms to protect children from negative forces and energy.
    - In Practice: Keep a sprig of rosemary by your heart and it will always remain open.
  4. Rosewater is a mild protective agent that can be used as a floor wash to eliminate heavy vibrations, making a home or ritual space more comfortable to live in. It is also known for its use in beauty tonics.
    - In Practice: Put six cups of rose petals in a saucepan and add four cups of water then bring to a boil. Let the mixture boil for 10–15 minutes. When it has cooled, pour the mixture through a strainer and into a sealable bottle for use in magic. Though fresh-picked roses and rainwater are ideal, using store-bought roses and clean tap water will also work. You can splash on a little rosewater whenever you are feeling down. It also acts as a magnet for loving vibes.
  5. Garlic - The same healing properties that it has in medicine are useful in magic to remove negativity, and to purify thoughts and places.
    - In Practice: A quick and easy use for garlic is to burn the skins on a fire or on charcoal in order to keep money in your home. For a spell to eliminate negativity, add cloves of garlic to a bowl of vinegar. Leave overnight. If the garlic has turned dark purple or black, that means there was a lot of negative energy and you should do again with fresh garlic and vinegar for one more night. If it looks fine, then you do not have to redo it. Flush the vinegar an garlic cloves down toilet to dispose of them.
  6. Sage is an herb of wisdom and healing and can be used in a variety of forms for magical practice. A simple tea made with a teaspoon of sage and a cup of boiling water can be added to a bath in order to destroy illusions and to resolve problems. It can also be added to a charm bag to make your expectations about a charm or spell to be more realistic.
    - In Practice: Smudge the house with bundled sage and it will feel lighter, this gets rid of negative energy that has accumulated. You can also do this to yourself to give you a little clear out from a hectic day. sage is available at some magic retailers and craft supply stories. But if you cannot find it bundled, you can dry the sage sprigs yourself. They should be about six inches in length and completely dried when you bundled them with twine. For more complete instructions, you can visit this page for making small basic bundles.
  7. Sandalwood is a very popular incense scent that is often sold as incense sticks; it can be found at places like a Michael’s craft store just as easily as at a magic shop. Sandalwood is believed to have protective properties and is used most often in spells and charms meant to banish negative forces in your life.
    - In Practice: When you are feeling blocked, braid three ribbons together, representing three things you feel blocked about. You can write them on the ribbon before you braid. Put the braid in your pocket and carry it with you for a full day to get your energy on it. Light some sandalwood incense and as you take in the scent, take out the braid and start undoing it. Really focus on the intention of these obstacles becoming uncrossed. When finished, take the ribbons to a crossroads or intersection and dispose of them. Leave three pennies for the spirits that open the roads as well.
  8. Basil is a multipurpose herb with many potential uses in magic, and for bringing good fortune in money and in love. It is also known for its cleansing and lightening properties.
    - In Practice: Basil can be used for money, prosperity, and love workings. Steep like you would tea and then mop the floors with it or sprinkle a little on the floor and sweep it up.
  9. Ginger is used to make spells come into fruition faster, as well as enhancing the spell. It is also used to enhance passion in relationships.
    - In Practice: Adding ginger to food can bring more passion to a relationship.

🌙Moon Water🌙

While there are tons of posts on how to create moon water, I have decided to share my own methods!
Method #1:
  1. Add distilled water to a sealable container
  2. Leave the jar in the path of moonlight, either outside or in your windowsill, with the intention of charging the water with lunar energy
  3. Remove the container before the sun rises
Method #2:
  1. Choose a few crystals that represent the moon, such as milky quartz or selenite
  2. Leave the crystals in the path of moonlight to charge
  3. Remove the crystals before the sun rises
  4. Surround a sealable container of distilled water with the crystals you’ve just charged with the intention of transferring the lunar energy from the crystals into the container of water
  5. Alternately, you can add these crystals to a sachet, and hang the sachet on the neck of the container or simply set it on top if it’s wide enough
Method #3:
  1. Using essential oils that represent the moon, such as lemon, honeysuckle, or jasmine - add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to a container of distilled water
Method #4:
  1. Using incense that represents the moon - light the incense and pass a container of distilled water through the smoke

Baby witch tips

Research:
• Do you want to follow paganism, a Wiccan path, or create your own?
If you do want to follow Wicca or paganism, start with the history and traditions. Learn about the proper altar set up, the sabbats in the wheel of the year, their beliefs, gods, goddesses, deities, etc.
• if you want to create your own path, think about why you wanted to practice in the first place; are you intrigued by the lunar phases? Does astrology fascinate you? Start there! If you’re interested in using candles or crystals, learn about their correspondences and metaphysical properties
• take a lot of notes! Not only will you thank yourself later, but it will also help you find out where to go from here and what you’re truly drawn to
• practice, but only once you’re comfortable: always take safety precautions and always thoroughly look into herbs, especially if consuming or using topically; keep water near by if you’re using candles and never let them burn unattended
• I’d also suggest doing a spell for protection, cleansing or self love as your first ritual whenyou’re ready and feel confident enough
A few other notes:
Remember that you can do things your own way!! I seriously can’t stress that enough, like I’m not Wiccan or Pagan but I still enjoy celebrating the sabbats. I am also a completely independent witch and have never worked with a coven, I prefer it this way tbh. Plus I don’t work with spirits, deities, gods or goddesses either. It’s all about what’s best for you
Lunar phases:
The moon cycle is very important in my path, I follow it closely and celebrate every full moon. I also do most spells in accordance with it, plan my cleansings with the dark moon, etc.
Water witches should also look into tides
Herbs, oils, and teas:
Herbs need to be treated with respect and caution. Some are poisonous. Some can not be ingested or applied to skin, some shouldn’t be used in large doses, while breastfeeding or pregnant, etc. this is why research is so important!!!
Oils can be infused with herbs or you can use essential oils, which “represent large quantities of plant material and are therefore very powerful plant derivatives that should be used sparingly and carefully” and are commonly mixed with a carrier oil There’s also tinctures and salves made from herbs and even herbal teas can be used metaphysically or medicinally (but thoroughly research either way make sure you’re not allergic, and be cautious)
Meditation and visualization: I personally think this is a huge part of witchcraft! It’s become one of my favourite areas to research and is always connecting to other aspects of my life, bringing me new opportunities, wonderful experiences as well as endless success in my craft
Crystals and elixirs: “A crystal elixir is the unique vibratory energy pattern of a crystal imprinted into the auric and biophysical energy matrix of water.”
Always check that the gemstone will not dissolve (like selenite), rust (like pyrite), or release any toxins (like malachite).
There are also several ways for the water to absorb the crystals energy without being submerged like this example
Divination: tarot or oracle cards, pendulums, scrying mirrors or bowls, tea leaf readings, runes, etc. There’s a variety of methods, each with their own process. I personally enjoy using seashells, but that’ll require a post of its own
Altars: there’s a specific set up for Wiccan altars, certain colours and symbols for sabbats, etc. but an altar is any sacred space. For example, it could be your nightstand with just a photo of your dog, some candles and a crystal ─ as long as it brings you comfort! It also doesn’t have to be your workspace. I have one with an empty spot for preforming rituals but the other ones I don’t usually touch much or at all
Offerings: usually left to gods, goddesses, fae, deities, etc. I like to leave them for small animals or just for nature in general ─ also remember that you can remove litter as an offering too and make sure that you do not ever leave anything which could harm the environment it was left in!!!
I know I missed a lot of things but this is just to give everyone a general idea of what to research and where to start, I hope it helps! 🙊🕯✨

Witch Tip

To reduce anger, hold a rock and visualize the anger flowing into it; then throw the rock away.
Why not do it at school or work- put your anger into anything you’re about to throw away and lob it in the bin 👌
Practical magic at it’s finest!! Lol but no really

    PSYCHIC DIVINATION TEA

Drink before psychic or divination work. it can taste a little funky but not all teas for magic use can taste like a field of wildflowers.
    • 1 part Black Tea
    • 2 part Lemon Balm
    • 1 part Cinnamon
    • 1 part Rose Hips

    -By HoneyCoyote-
*******Mugwort should never be used internally during pregnancy or lactation or by anyone who has pelvic inflammatory issues as it causes uterine contractions and can be passed through the mother’s milk.
Mugwort should not be used for more than one week continuously. Continued, habitual use of mugwort can cause nervous problems, liver damage and convulsions.

    TO CLEANSE A TAROT DECK

I wrote this spell when I bought my Tarot cards, in order to cleanse them and attune them to my energies.
I set them on the windowsill, and placed a chunk of quartz on top to amplify the energies. I preform this spell on the first night of the full moon.
“These cards before me have had a life,
of seeing good and seeing strife.
Now that they have come to me,
I cleanse them of their memories.
For three days hence, they’ll see the light
The sun by day, the moon by night.
When at last these days are done,
The future, present, and past will be one.”
After the chant is done, leave the cards and the quartz on the window sill. If possible, take them out of the box.

“Not All Who Wander Are Lost” Tarot Spread
    1.  Your goal
    2.  The real issue(s) keeping you from reaching it
    3.  Obstacles you will face and must overcome
    4.  Approach/Path 1
    5.  Approach/Path 2
    6.  Advice for Path 1
    7.  Advice for Path 2
    8.  Outcome for Path 1
    9.  Outcome for Path 2
For the last few years I’ve been feeling a bit lost career-wise.  What I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life doing is not what I want to do, but I feel stuck, old, & tired.  When I was young I had a plan–a very straightforward plan that I allowed myself to be diverted from with mixed results (+cute son; -controlling ex husband).  It took me a long time to realize that there isn’t just one path to reach my goals–there are many and I have the power to find one.
When you get to feeling that you’re in a rut, remember that there are thousands of people out there where you want to be and they each had their own way of getting there.  This spread will help you find at least two options/approaches to reach a goal (it doesn’t have to be career) and to reassure you–there is a way to get to your goal from where you are.
Feel free to play with it….add more paths, add an extra card after each approach to see what individual obstacles each path will create or bring forth.  Be brave and seek out the advice you need, but remember you are ultimately in control of you :)

IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE WHO ASK FOR READINGS

When someone does a reading for you, whether it’s tarot, pendulum, or whatever else, it’s important that you do the following:

    1. Thank them for the reading! The energy, time, and effort that goes into each reading can take a lot out of some people, and it really makes someone’s day when you let them know that you appreciate all of that work.
    2. Offer feedback! Did the reading help you at all? Do you have better insight about the situation? Did it touch on something you didn’t even this about? And was the reading clear to you? Did you understand it? This sort of thing helps your reader so much, because it offers a gauge for accuracy and clarity. And the more accurate and clear they become, the better they can help other clients.
    3. If you paid for the reading, consider tipping. It’s another form of gratitude for your reader, and not everyone can earn their income solely on readings. Whether you do and how much is up to you, but it always makes someone’s day and can really help people out.

These are just simple suggestions, but all of them really benefit your reader and future clients. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to add to the list.
