This is my online Grimoire, complete with my spells, the spells of others, and masterposts. Feel free to use this as your own Grimoire, or take bits and pieces from it.
“An’ it harm none, do what thou wilt.”
It’s
natural for tarot cards to accumulate & harbor energy, since that
is the primary force they operate through; it can “clog” or “restrain”
them, making them rather unproductive, though it doesn’t damage them.
They simply need to rest and be refreshed every now & then, just
like the reader does.
METHODS ||
I suggest trying all of them out & sticking to the ones that work for you. Shuffling Simply
shuffle the deck with the intention of cleansing it, in whatever way
that’s most comfortable for you & for as long as you feel you need
to. Sorting Sort the cards – arrange them in order of
the 22 Major Arcana and 4 suits of the 56 Minor Arcana. Allow the deck
to “rest” in proper sequence for a while. You could also simply sort the
cards so that all are upright & none reversed. Knocking Tap the deck against something, or tap it with your hands / another object. Sunlight (This
method is better for projective/masculine decks.) Place the deck in
sunlight and leave it there until you feel that all the unwanted energy
has been burned, faded, blinded, or driven out. Moonlight (This
method is better for receptive/feminine decks.) Place the deck in
moonlight and leave it there until you feel that all the unwanted energy
has been drained, coaxed, flushed, or guided out. Salt Place
the deck in a sealed, air-tight plastic bag and bury it in organic
salt. Let the salt soak up the excess energy for a few days, or until
you feel it’s done. Crystals Place a crystal that
corresponds to your intention upon the deck, or somewhere near it. You
could also form a crystal grid around it. Smoke Pass the
deck through the smoke of incense or burning plants that correspond to
your intention (most people would use dried sage or rosemary). Pendulums Swing
a pendulum of your choice clockwise in circular motions above or on the
surface around the deck with your intention in mind until you feel that
all the unwanted energy has been drawn out & expelled. Sound Play
any instrument with your intention in mind, or place the deck near a
speaker and play music that corresponds to your intention. *You
can also cleanse each card individually rather than the whole deck at
once, if you prefer. It takes longer but it’s more thorough
& “intimate”
MAINTENANCE ||
After
cleansing your deck, store it in a special box/bag/cloth and/or with a
quartz crystal to protect and generally upkeep its clean state. Simple tip: cleanse
your deck every time you use it. This is the easiest way to maintain a
healthy deck, & the ritual of it can improve your general
relationship with the cards as well as your connection with them in the
moment. Other good opportunities to cleanse your deck: - It’s brand-new / inherited / borrowed / secondhand -
Another person has come into contact with it (especially if it was
without your permission – the deck will let you know if it’s been
meddled with) - It has come into direct contact with a surface or
object you didn’t want it to (this mainly applies to the tarot readers
who take extra precautions to preserve the energetic integrity of their
deck – such as only laying the cards on a designated cloth/mat/board,
not allowing others to touch them, etc) - It has come into direct contact with another deck - It hasn’t been used for a long period of time - It’s been accidentally scattered/messed up/physically damaged - Many different readings have been performed with it - An extensive/intense reading has been performed with it Symptoms of a deck that needs to be cleansed: - An irregularly large amount of cards drawn in a reading are reversed -
An irregularly large amount of cards are falling or popping out of the
deck while you shuffle & handle it in general / the deck won’t stay
together - The readings are becoming unclear, or you’re having an
unnecessarily difficult time interpreting & discerning their
meaning; you’re getting mixed messages, the cards aren’t cohesive, and
so on. If you feel like you’re not gaining anything out of the readings
you do with a deck, you need to cleanse it. - You get the sense that
you need to cleanse the deck. This could manifest in many different
ways; perhaps you feel bored of the deck or distant from it, or perhaps
its “personality” changes, or perhaps you simply feel off about it.
Common “off” feelings are slowness or lethargy, disengagement,
bitterness, exhaustion, a sense of a contrary or combative disposition,
misplaced irony, dullness or hollowness, strain, stress, aggravation,
confusion, or alienation, and may come from either you or the deck
itself when you interact with it. - You can’t bring yourself to focus
on the readings you do with it; neither you nor the deck can maintain
your concentration / awareness / full presence. - You consistently
lose and misplace the deck or you can’t find it when you want to use it –
or other people have moved it, even just once. If you don’t give it a
spot and it tends to wander around your house, that may translate into
your cards. Cleanse them and pick a permanent/regular place to keep
them. - The deck loses its “magic” and begins to feel like plain paper to you -
Using the deck consistently drains, frustrates, upsets, or annoys you /
using it no longer brings you whatever beneficial quality it usually
does.

As
a witch and an avid coffee lover, I felt like its time for some
frappuccino magick (and some suggested stones you can pair with them)! A little disclaimer - No, I am not being paid to post this or anything… I just really like coffee. π
☕
Caramel - Bring some sweetness into your day! Caramel is sticky and
sweet, so drink some to attract positivity and comfort to stick with you
throughout the day! You could also drink it while you’re studying to
help things stick in your brain. Pair with sodalite.
☕
Chai Creme - Don’t you mean the perfect spiced up love potion in
coffee form?? This frappuccino uses a spicy chai tea which contains
black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, star anise, and pepper aka
your perfect blend of passion, charm, courage, lust, and aphrodisiacs..
*wink wink*. Pair with garnet.
☕
Cinnamon Dolce - On the go? Pairing cinnamon, coffee, and sugary
goodness is great for boosting your energy! Relaxing? Who doesn’t love a
warm cinnamon-y sugar feeling? You can also use this beverage to bring
peace and relaxation! Pair with carnelian / blue lace agate.
☕
Coffee - Coffee is fantastic for mental clarity and grounding. If
you’re having one of those days, get some coffee and go for a walk. Take
advantage of the boosted alertness to enjoy nature, clear your mind,
and overcome any internal blockages. Pair with hematite.
☕
Cotton Candy - (Does not contain caffeine) This vanilla and
raspberry frappuccino is perfect for two things: peace and love.
Vanilla’s calming aroma paired with this fruit of patience encourages
peace of mind. On the other hand, vanilla’s loving vibrations paired
with raspberries’ fidelity give you a perfect romance drink.
(Raspberries are also used with pregnancy spells which is great because
it is also caffeine free!) Pair with moonstone.
☕
Green Tea Creme -
(Does not contain caffeine)
Green tea is great for healing! It boosts immunity, reduces bad
cholesterol, promotes healthy cell growth, is high in antioxidants, and
helps you to relax if you are tense. When drinking, you can see your
beverage cleansing and detoxing with every sip you take. Pair with bloodstone.
☕
Java Chip and
Mocha - One word: chocolate. These two frappuccinos are
practically the same thing except one has chocolate chips in it, so I’m
going to group them together. Chocolate is all about love and
friendship, and people often give or receive chocolate as rewards. Pair
it with a self-love bath and indulge. You deserve it! Pair with rhodonite.
☕
Midnight Mint - How about a minty sweet cleanse? Mint is all about
protection and cleansing, and when paired with chocolate brings a little
positivity with it. Mint is also great for breaking spells, hexes, and
jinxes, so if you’re feeling a bit wary, go grab yourself a drink! Pair with black tourmaline.
☕ Pumpkin Spice - The perfect drink around Samhain to give you all
your favorite fall spices in one! Pumpkins are fantastic for bringing
some money your way especially when paired with the other spices in your
PSF. On top of that, pumpkins are great for divination. Tarot readings
in Starbucks, anyone? Pair with aventurine.
☕
Strawberries & Creme - (Does not contain caffeine) Strawberries
are very similar to raspberries correspondence wise. This drink is
great for innocent or platonic love and happiness! Pair this drink with a
friendship spell, or just grab one with your best bud. Pair with rose quartz.
☕
Vanilla Bean -(Does not contain caffeine)
Vanilla is always known for its amazing aroma! This drink is fantastic
to drink for positivity, whether for yourself, or paired with a spell
for others or your home. Pair with amethyst.
☕
White Chocolate Mocha - I love white chocolate for glamour! Just
like regular chocolate, it brings positivity, but white chocolate has a
sweeter and lighter taste to it. Drink this in the morning to give
yourself some boosted confidence and self-positivity for the day! Pair with selenite. Added note: You can always switch out regular milk for almond milk! Almond milk is great for wisdom, prosperity, fruitfulness, and healing. Drink up and enjoy!
Optional: cloves for purification, cinnamon for energy, garlic for keeping negativity away
When to do it?
During a New Moon night Method:
Take
the time to meditate and focus on your intent (protecting yourself from
negative energies and persons), try to be precise and to visualize it
clearly.
Then add all of the ingredients (cleansed if you
prefer) in the bag.For each ingredient, take the time to stay focus on
what you want, visualize protection energy charging them, imagine
yourself safe and protected from all dangers. You can even say it out
loud if you wish.
Finally, close the bag and focus one last time on what you want this bag to accomplish
Now you can carry this little bag with you, or keep it in the main room of your house, to keep you and your space protected
• fill
one half of the mug with milk and the other half with cream, mix it
slowly while pouring happiness and warm feelings into it. • drop one spoon of each honey and mix, imagine the honey being liquid sunshine. • then drop half a spoon of vanilla sugar and three drops of vanilla extract. mix. • put it in the microwave for one minute and thirty seconds. • take it out and add the chocolate and the cappucino powders. • stir and sprinkle the sprinkles on it.
Obviously
none of these are mandatory, but their presence can help keep your
altar spiritually clean and aid you in your work! This is only a handful
of ideas, as many more crystals have uses as well!
πRed Jasper helps
clear the mind and encourages grounding/stability. It also helps
establish new disciplines and helps create a sense of control. This is
super handy if you are new and want a little reassurance!
πQuartz
is a very common and very popular one. It helps store energy, and can
be used to charge other items, keeping them “fresh” for you. It’s also a
good amplifier for any magical workings.
πObsidian absorbs and converts negative energy, keeping it from gunking up your altar space! It’s like a fish tank cleaner.
πAgate
helps aid ceremonies and rituals by assuring everything goes smoothly!
It also is useful for communicating with spirits and higher powers, so
if you have a devotional altar, this might be a nice addition.
πChrysoprase
gives off a calm and gentle vibe. If you would like your altar space to
be immediately soothing and peaceful, this is a nice stone to help
color the atmosphere.
πRuby in Fuchsite is known for
clearing out energy blocks, greatly enhancing psychic powers, and is
handy in spirit work/meditation. If you’re into divination or the altar
is for a spirit companion, this could be a great thing to keep around!
πBlack Kyanite,
besides being a handy protection stone, is great for aiding in energy
work! If your altar space is for magic working, this can help the flow
of energy between you, your tools, and your spell go much more smoothly.

TO CLEANSE YOUR TOOLS CRYSTALS AND JEWELRY
π
π
Hello Moonlings! I thought I would share with you something
SUPER easy to make that I did the other day: a purification jar. Nothing
original there you’ll tell me, right? Wait! This jar is actually made
for you to place what needs to be cleansed INSIDE, while the elements of
the jar will cleanse it. It’s a great and simple way to cleanse your
crystals for example, and you can do it at any time! What you’ll need:
jar, like a mason jar, it has to be big enough to place what you want to cleanse inside
sea salt
dried sage
rosemary
clear quartz(s)
How to proceed:
π
Once all the ingredients gathered, place them in the jar, starting with
the salt. For each ingredient, focus on what you want it to accomplish,
charge it with your intent to purify whatever will be placed in the
jar.
π
Then, close the jar and shake it all, so that the ingredients are mixed up.
π
Finally, let the jar charge overnight during New Moon. And there it is! Your purification jar is up and ready to use ;)
Here are some quick magickal techniques you can use first thing in the morning to help make your day go a little easier! Morning Shower Meditation
- use the element of water to cleanse yourself of any lingering
negativity from the previous day. Use herbal soaps, herbal bags for
aromatherapy, oils, or other means to help you focus on your intent to
wash away negative energy down the drain. Light some incense
- I do this on most mornings to set a tone for how I want the day to
proceed. Aromas can produce powerful emotions and moods. Here’s a brief
list of some of my favorites scents and some of their attributes.
Frankincense and Myrrh - uplifting
Amber - comfort, healing, and happiness
Cinnamon - success and strength
Jasmine - love and wisdom
Pine - grounding
Altar Devotion/Invocations
- You can light some candles on your altar and speak some invocations
for your deities to guide you throughout the day. I do a Goddess
Devotion every morning to ask Her for her strength, vitality, love, and
intuition to guide me. Breakfast - Even your
breakfast can be spiritual! You are filling yourself with the
nourishment that the Earth has provided you with. Be conscious of what
you eat. Try fruits, oatmeal, grits, milk, juices, meats, and breads to
start your morning by showing your gratitude to all that is. Glass of Water
- Having a glass of water in the morning can be used to cleanse the
body, just like the shower. You can even do an herbal tea blend to
incite a mood just as the incense does. Yoga and Exercise - This can also be a form of meditation in the morning. Dream Journals
- You can keep a dream journal by your bed so you can record your
dreams in the morning when you first wake up. Writing can also be
considered a form of meditation and getting into a routine can become
your personal ritual. Greet the Sun - Going for a walk
outside or just watching the sunrise can be a very powerful ritual. The
Sun lends us its strength, passion, and love as we go about our busy
day. Greet the sun and ask it for guidance.
Disclaimer:
this jar is not a replacement for medical or psychological care in case
of any dysfunction, and it should not exempt you either of using common
sense!
This jar was also requested for a male individual. Ingredients:
a little bottle/jar
wax, orange if you can
sugar for sweetness
vanilla for attraction
dried red rose petals for love & passion
dried orange peels for energy
dried basil for masculine energy
dried mint for strength
cinnamon for power and sensuality
a stone such as carnelian, amber, tiger’s eye
How to proceed:
Take
the time to light a candle,
meditate if you wish to and focus on your intent. Visualize it cleary and with as
many details as
possible. If you can do it with your partner, even better!
Add the sugar at the bottom of your jar, then all the
other ingredients in layers. With each ingredient, repeat your wish.
Finally, add the lid to your bottle and seal it with the wax, focusing on your
Keep
the jar under your bed/pillow and don’t hestiate to pull it out before
action and take the time to refocus using it as a little help!
Note: you can also do the same thing as a charm bag, using a red or orange fabric.
And of course, for any question, shoot me an ask!
Protection Jar Against Binding and Hexes Ingredients - Dried hydrangea petals - Dried and ground hydrangea stems
- Crushed sea salt - Lavender essential oil - Rosemary - Dried lavender petals - Dried amaranth seeds - Rose quartz nuggets (small enough to fit in your jar) Layer Ingredients The
order is unimportant - do what feels right to you. You’ll want to
cleanse your jar prior to adding your ingredients; ensure that your jar
is dried completely. For each layer of petals added, add a few drops of
lavender essential oil. Once you’ve sealed your jar, tie a pentacle
around the neck of it to charge. You can store on your window seal, by
your bed, or under your bed. If you choose your window, making a jar for
each window seal is an option.
rising signs often represent the lenses with which we see
the world through soooo yeah. this is very archetypal so take that into
consideration.
aries rising lenses- these rising signs have two,
highly contrasting and opposite lenses (they see things in black and
white- no grey). the colors are enhanced and bright, but opposite on
either side. there’s a reddish tint on both of the lenses however, and
they tend to focus on the positive and exciting aspects of life.
taurus
rising lenses- taurus rising lenses help the person see the beauty in
everything. they’re a green tint, and pinks are enhanced. they exude a
sense of calmness and tranquility. these lenses don’t hide the bad
however, just focuses on the beautiful.
gemini rising lenses-
these lenses are yellow tinted, and are also transition lenses. each
setting the gemini rising goes to, their view changes. these lenses help
them attain all the knowledge the world has to offer. changeable,
fluid, and youthful.
cancer rising lenses- cancer risings have
blue lenses, a somber and soulful view of the world. the lenses help
them see the souls of others and empathize deeply. tend to accentuate
their large, moony, eyes. sees the world in emotions.
leo rising
lenses- orange and golden lenses allow the leo rising to exude
confidence and elegance. see the world as a place to perform, everyone
around them being an audience member. sunsets and bright lights are
enhanced.
virgo risings lenses- grey/blue toned lenses. a
sobering and realistic view of the world, with an eye for the pain that
exists all around them. stands out to only those who choose to see them.
sees the world as a responsibility yet also a library.
libra

the ability to exude positivity, kindness, and friendliness. ignores and
escapes the reality of the world. similar to the taurus rising, focuses
on the beautiful.
scorpio rising lenses - deep, purple tinted
lenses. sees the world intensely and passionately, with the darker side
of life enhanced. tends to see only the harsher side of the world, all
the tragedy that exists. exudes mystery.

they are seeing the world how it really is, but in fact is a highly
pessimistic view. exudes restriction, elegance, and wisdom. sharp
criticism and ambition.
aquarius rising lenses- neon blue lenses.
sees all of humanity with their lenses, and acts as a messenger to the
people, bringing knowledge and information at lightning speed. embodies
electricity, friendliness, and eccentricity
pisces rising lenses-
rainbow lenses. in each setting, a certain color can be presented as
they are mutable and fluid, to fit whatever situation they’re in. sees
the world in every possible way. both exudes naivety and wisdom.
Exercises:
These
exercises can be done in two ways. You can either pick one paper up and
try to guess what is on the paper, or you can think of a paper and try
to find it in the pieces of paper. If you feel you need more pieces of
paper by all means add more. If you work with deities, your higher self,
spirits of any sorts, please feel free to invite them to help you with
these exercises, if you’d like.
The number exercise:
cut four, same sized pieces of paper with the numbers 1-4 written on
them. Turn them downwards and mix them up. Pick one up and try to guess
which number it is.
The shape exercise: cut four,
same sized pieces of paper, and draw a star, a heart, a circle and a
cube on them. Turn them downwards and mix them up. Pick one up and try
to guess which shape it is.
The color exercise: cut
four, same size pieces of paper, and add a different color to all of
them. Turn them downwards and mix them up. Try to guess which paper has
which color on them.
The quiz exercise: find a quiz
online that you know nothing about - this may be a science quiz, a pop
culture quiz, a quiz about a band, or the Viking history quiz. Take the
quiz and try to guess the answers.
The object exercise:
Get a older object, works best if it’s given by a friend do you and
examine it. Try to pick up the objects energies and try to
see/hear/smell the person that the object is tied to. It’s best done
with a friend because they will most likely know some information about
the person and they can tell if you’re right or wrong.
The card exercise:
Pick one card up from a deck and try to see the color, the shape and
the number of that card. You can also do this with tarot cards, try to
feel the cards energies.
Divination: it’s a great
exercise for enhancing your psychic abilities and the range of tools you
can do divination with is enormous. So, find the one that calls to you
and start divining.
In my experience these are the main
exercises which you can sit and work on but they’re not the only ones.
Intuition can be worked on throughout the day even in the most mundane
tasks:
Try to guess who texted you or is calling you before you pick up the phone.
If other people cook for you, try to guess what you’re having for lunch before seeing it.
Try to pick up what your friend is going to tell you before they do.
Try to guess when the light is going to turn green at a traffic light.
Think of a person, and try seeing what they’re doing at the moment. After you’re done, ask them whatsup.
When
talking to a friend on the phone try to see what they’re wearing, what
their hair is like, and/or what they’re doing and ask them.
When you get up try to sense what the weather is going to be like today.
When at the store and you’re waiting in line try to sense how much the person before you needs to pay.
Tell a friend to think of a number and try to guess that number.
When listening to music on shuffle, try to sense what the next song is going to be.
When
people close to you talk on the phone try and sense who they’re talking
to and ask them afterwards. (only if they’re comfortable with it, not
all people would like their privacy invaded, my friends and family know
why I’m doing that so they’re cool with it)
Try to sense what a close friends text is saying before you open it, or try to sense why they’re calling you.
These
are all I can think of a t the moment, hopefully in the future I’m
going to add more. Basically anytime, anywhere when you have some space
left to guess what’s going to happen, do it. MEDITATION: I can’t stress
how important meditation is, especially to witches, mages, shamans, and
all occult practitioners in general. I know it sounds boring when
people tell you to meditate but we all need some time to relax and clear
our heads. And in the moments of blissful relaxation we let out soul
speak to us the most thus coming into our strongest potential where we
can energetically change our DNA and rewire our brains. In the moment of
deep relaxation you can focus on cleansing your pineal gland /
increasing your intuition.
I like to imagine purple/indigo color
and lavender flowers coming out of my pineal gland spreading and
covering my whole body and aura. I also like to imagine roots stretching
from my pineal gland bursting through my forehead opening an eye in the
centre of it. I like to massage the centre of my forehead, and I like
taping an amethyst to it lol.
There are lots of guided meditations
on youtube, which are extremely helpful, and there are lots of binaural
beats and isochronic tones, which are also very helpful. Just find your
comfort zone to working on the pineal gland and focus on it. Don’t feel
bad if per say, isochronic tones don’t work for you but storm sounds do
work. Find your comfort zone and work within it.
Also you might want to check out Sun Gazing, which is a very powerful exercise you’re going to need to dedicate yourself to. Pineal gland detoxification:
Avoid
ingesting fluoride - I know this is hard, seeing at the people on top
put fluoride in literally everything knowing what it’s doing to our
brains. But there are alternatives, the internet is a huge place and you
can find almost everything there. Avoid fluoridated water, fluoridated
toothpaste, GMO fruits and vegetables, soda, all artificial foods and
drinks. Try to eat healthy and organically and if possible reduce eating
meat - and cutting it off completely.
Avoid sleeping with
technology in your room if possible - this means wireless routers,
mobile phones, computers etc. The pineal gland is suppressed by electro
magnetic fields.
Avoid or if you can, completely cut off all sugar, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
Once you’ve detoxified your body and pineal gland it’s time to start working on activating and boosting your pineal gland:
Spend
time in sunlight every day - or as much as you can. Practice sungazing
as well, and it is best done when the sun has risen or in the moments
it’s going away because the sun is the weakest then and it can’t harm
your eyes and it won’t bother you.
Oils and incense -
Sleep and meditate in complete darkness.
Commit to meditation every day.
Dedicate
rituals to your third eye - whether it be a bath ritual, once in a full
moon ritual, a day of the week ritual, or whenever you feel like it
ritual, do it.
Practice yoga, especially Yoga Nidra as it is the most powerful yogic practice to increase the blood flow to your pineal gland.
Eat
food that boosts the pineal gland - raw cocoa, coconut oil, lemon - the
body’s best friend, basically the master of detox, garlic, raw apple
cider vinegar, goji berries, watermelon, honey, hemp seeds, iodine,
vitamin K1/K2, boron, bananas, alkaine food, chlorophyll rich foods,
oregano oil, sea moss, walnuts, turmeric and melatonin.
Crystals
that stimulate the pineal gland - amethyst, lapis lazuli, clear quartz,
moonstone, sodalite. You can meditate with these crystals on your
forehead daily, you can tape a crystal on your forehead and stay like
that for a while, or you can massage your forehead with it.
Chant - there are a lot of chants to boost your pineal gland, you can google some, I’ve found that OM works best for me.
Plants
that enhance intuition - ginger, gotu kola, ginkgo, skullcap, elder
leaf, berries and flower, fennel, lavender, lemongrass, saffron, bay
leaves, rosemary, honey suckle, anise, eyebright, lotus, mimosa,
sandalwood, burning acacia, cinnamon, buchu leaves, celery, lilac, mint,
mugwort, solomons leaf, frankincense, jasmine, lemon, peppermint, rose,
sage, vanilla and star anise.
Oils - bay laurel, carrot
seed, galbanum, german chamomile, grapefruit, myrrh, nutmeg, palo santo,
petitgrain, roman chamomile, sandalwood, st. john’s wort, angelica
root, eleni, juniper, frankincense, rosemary and patchouli.
And
most important of all - trust your gut! The problem with not listening
to our intuition is when our rational, logical mind interferes and tries
to come up with logical solutions as to why your intuition is wrong.
Whenever you get that gut feeling, just go with it, don’t question it.
Also always remember to protect yourself when working on your pineal
gland, seeing as we are more open and vulnerable to psychic attacks
during these moments.
To brighten up your day and help you stay energized and positive! For best results, do this spell right after you wake up. Tools & ingredients {The amount of each ingredients can vary. Use the amount you feel comfortable with and don’t be afraid to follow your instinct}

Friends On The Other Side Curse
- to cause nightmares for someone who is insulting you, gossiping about
you, or otherwise making your life difficult by running their mouth
Don’t you disrespect me, little man Don’t you derogate or deride You’re in my world now, not your world And I’ve got friends on the other side
You will need:
Photo of the person, or a blank cloth poppet
Target’s hair or nails, if you can get them
Black marker, or needle and black thread
Valerian (for a constant groggy feeling)
Juniper berries (to cause visions)
Lobelia (aka Gagroot, to make them choke on their words)
Allspice (to alleviate diarrhea of the mouth)
Cypress (to cause dreams to become nightmares) [Substitute for Yew]
Vinegar
Jar with tight-fitting lid
Coins or food offering
Step One:
Take the photo or poppet, and the black marker or needle and thread,
and draw X’s or sew a series of cross-stitches over the mouth. The
number will depend on how badly the target has been slandering you. For
worse transgressions, use more X’s.
Say:
I bind your mouth, I bind your voice Because you made the foolish choice To insult, slander, and seek to maim, But now it is YOU who will be shamed.
Step Two:
Place the poppet or photo, and the hair and nails into the jar. Add the
lobelia and the allspice. While adding the valerian, juniper berries,
and cypress, say:
No more words and no more speech But dreams I place within your reach Into your head these herbs will send A nightmare world without an end You chose to derogate and deride Now meet my friends on the Other Side
Step Three: Fill the jar with vinegar (or urine, if you prefer), and seal it. Wax or duct tape around the rim will prevent escape. Step Four:
Take the jar to a cemetery. Bury it inside the gate. Leave the coins or
food as an offering for the dead who dwell there. Walk away without
looking back.
Also for witches who just don’t have a lot of time. I
have a lot of anxiety, which can lead to perfectionism, and stress
myself out worrying that drawing in my grimoire will turn out horribly.
I’m also
naturally a pretty low-energy person, and can’t afford to spend all of
it working on a single page. These are some things I use to speed up the
process, and to make it much less consuming.
Check out the
scrap booking section of craft/hobby stores.
There’s many things you can find that could be useful, like small
frames, borders, stencils, appliques, patterned paper. During Halloween
they usually have more spookie-type stuff, like black cats and bats.
Washi tape. There’s so many
different kinds of washi tape, and they make really nice borders. I particularly like the floral
ones, and the ones with polka-dots.
Stickers. You can get
stickers from so many places, and you can
usually find some pretty cute ones, like animals or flowers, and
seasonal ones for holidays/sabbats. Dollar stores also usually have
quite a few in the school supply aisle. Online stores like LookHuman
and Etsy have some fun ones, though they can get kind of expensive. If
you have a printer, you can also try making your own stickers.
Craft
scraps. Bits of colored paper, fabric scraps, ribbon, buttons,
tiny bows. Anything you want. For example; I glued the last bit of
some black lace ribbon to a page about graveyard dirt. My grimoire is a
mini three-ring binder, so it’s easy for me to take pages out in order
work on them. If your book does not have removable pages, be careful of
the materials you use. Things that don’t lay flat, like buttons, can
make it difficult to work on your pages.
Print out pictures.
I try to avoid this unless I can really make it
look nice, and not look like a school-project collage.
Unless that’s what you like. In which case, go for it! This could also
be an easier way to add in pictures of animals and plants without having
to draw tiny little details.
Print out whole pages. (If you
have a book to which you can add pages.) Things like recipes, articles,
or anything information-heavy. I get that writing things down yourself
can be helpful, and even make you feel more connected to your grimoire.
But, personally, I don’t feel like every page needs to be
hand-done. Some recipes I’ll keep on recipe cards in pockets/envelopes
inside the book, or if I want full mythology stories, I’d print it out
instead of trying to hand-write the whole thing.
Use
photographs. These can be printed out, or maybe you have one of
those instant Polaroid-type cameras. If you go on walks, you could
stick in pictures of local flora and fauna, or make of page for spots
around town that help you connect spiritually, like your favorite beach
or a local cemetery.
Cut out pictures from magazines and
newspapers. It can be difficult to find pictures that work with what
you’re writing about, but it’s still worth flipping through them.
Specialty magazines may work better, like a gardening magazine. Around
September/October, history and travel magazines will usually do articles
on haunted locations or the history of witchcraft in different areas,
though I would check the accuracy.
Keep the drawings simple. There’s so many pictures floating around
of these beautiful, hand-drawn grimoire pages. And while those are
great, it’s also important to keep in mind that yours does not
need to look like that. It’s fine if you want something simple,
or need something simple. It’s your book, do what works best for
you. Don’t stress yourself out trying to make a masterpiece.
Write out your initial notes before copying them into your grimoire. For me,
it would take too much time and energy to hand-write everything twice. I also tend to reorganize things a lot. So I use word
documents on my computer instead. Most computers will come with some
type of text program, like Notepad or Microsoft Word. If you need one, I recommend
checking out OpenOffice, which works just as well as Word and can be
downloaded for free.
That’s all I have! I hope it was helpful, and feel free to add ideas.
Honeysuckle
tea is made with the delicate white and yellow flowers of the Japanese
Honeysuckle vine. It’s considered an invasive species, so gardeners and
conservationists don’t like it, but it is pretty common, so chances are
there’s a vine or two near you. The flowers come in pairs, and you’ll
want to pluck them right at their base, where the nectar is. Look for
freshly opened flowers, and avoid or pick out the leaves, stems, and
berries. Ingredients:
about 2 cups honeysuckle blossoms;
garnish;
fresh mint sprigs;
a few honeysuckle blossoms.
Process:
Pluck
the blossoms from the honeysuckle vine. Discard any leaves or green
parts. Try to take the freshly opened flowers, and even the buds that
are about to open. Put them in a pitcher or mason jar. Cover with
about 2 ½ cups water that has been heated to just boiling. Give it a
good stir and let steep at room temperature for several hours. Then
refrigerate overnight. Strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth, or a coffee filter. The coffee filter will yield a crystal clear tea. Serve cold over ice with a mint sprig and a few blossoms for garnish.
Citrine,
a variation of quartz, has lots of energy. It can be quick and
fast-paced, direct and focused. The Crystal Affirmation card says it can
help us take on new things “with gusto.” Where do you need a little
citrine energy in your life?
.
Let’s look at the four elements!
This article is the second in a series. The first article discussed the history behind the four elements. It also provided my perspective on how they function in witchcraft.
In
today’s article, we’ll look at each element, one by one! It’s best to
read the earlier article first. It covers concepts such as the
hot-cold/dry-wet spectrum. These are a bit important! I’ll
be giving a bit of the traditional correspondences. I’ll also be
talking about why those associations exist. I hope you find it
interesting, and that it helps with your craft. Let’s begin with Fire!
Fire
Fire is a hot and dry element. This means that the forces fire represents are both stable and active.
People wonder why fire is “stable.” Realize that, or centuries, it was the only source of stable light on dark nights!
Fire
consumes. It also provides warmth and light. It has a mixed role in
human history. Ancient people drove away predators with Fire. So, it’s
associated with our ability to defend ourselves against malevolent
forces. Even so, its destructive power is well-known. Before
the modern era, house fires could be particularly devastating. After
all, there were no fire trucks in those days! Thus, fire corresponds
both to dangerous aggression and necessary self-defense.
Fire was
not something humans have known about forever. We had to discover and
harness it! Many legends describe fire as gifted by (or stolen from) the
gods. It was a revolutionary discovery for our species. It is thus associated with human ingenuity. It can represent our ability to shape natural phenomena in our favor.
For this reason, we associate Fire with the creative spark
within each person. It is also associated with the concept of Will.
This can mean both our everyday desires, and our deepest goals. It
represents our desire and ability to enact change in our reality! It’s associated with the suit of Wands in Tarot.
There, it corresponds to human creativity, will, desire, and our driven
activities. For many diviners, the Wands represent new projects and
creative energy. The fourteen cards of the suit represent the spectrum
of human desire and drive.
Air
Air is a hot and wet element, but this only means that it is active, yet flowing and dynamic.
To
understand air’s metaphysical meaning, look at how actual air currents
behave. It was easy for our ancestors to notice and observe the weather,
wind, and clouds.
Air does nourish human beings.
Our ancestors didn’t understand this, though. So, it doesn’t factor into
the metaphysical meaning of air. You might have this association,
though. As usual, go with what works for you!
Air is
very quick! It is also very powerful. Think of a tornado. It represents
dynamic changes. The wind, like fire, can destroy even very strong
structures. This is why Air and Fire are both seen as active elements.
Air
gets associated with the human intellect and communication. These are
concepts that are capable of creating rapid change. We associate the
idea of communication, in particular, with speed. After all, if you’re
going to communicate something, you want to be efficient and quick about
it.
In ancient times, reliable and fast communication was
paramount. This is often taken for granted now. After all, the Internet
made communication much easier! Strong winds bring to mind the speed and
power of mass communication. They also represent the powerful, yet
capricious nature of human intellect. We usually associate Air with the Suit of Swords in Tarot.
This is one of the more difficult suits, though! It shows a lot of
vigorous action. To better understand Air and the Tarot Swords, realize
that thoughts become actions. A mere idea can create incredible and
swift changes!
Water
Water is the wet and cold element. It is dynamic and ever-changing, yet passive and nourishing to us.
Passive
elements, including earth, are those which provide nourishment in some
form. All the elements aid humanity in some way. Still, humans are more
in touch with the nourishing aspect of Water and Earth in particular.
Their importance was obvious to ancient agrarian societies! When something is active, it changes you without your own initiative.
Water is a passive element, though. You draw from water by choice. It
is true that floods sometimes force themselves into our lives.
Still,
our ancestors were more influenced by the nourishing power of drawing
from the sea. Some scientists even believe that seafood helped humans
develop modern brain structures! Water is something you seek out and use for nourishment.
Water
is dynamic in nature - think of how capricious the sea and large bodies
of water can be. Also, their depths hide dangers and treasures. Most associate water with human emotions in magical systems.
This because emotions tend to embody the same qualities in a
metaphorical fashion. Most people have hidden emotional depths. Our
emotional landscape ebbs and flows. The Tarot associates Water with the suit of Cups. These
are often very positive cards! They represent the range of human
emotional experience. Some of my students have asked why so many Cups
are positive cards.
This might be because it is human nature to
emphasize positive emotions. This keeps us from despair. While it is
never good to completely ignore bad feelings, positivity does go a long
way!
Earth
Earth is the dry and cold element. This means that it is passive, and also less mutable.
The
earth under our feet has always been a very stable feature of human
experience. Thus, it’s strongly associated with the fixed, unchanging
aspects of human existence. This is true of Earth more than any other
element!
Without a doubt, even early humans knew how important
soil was. They knew that Earth was a source of great physical
nourishment for humanity. Like Water, Earth is something humans choose to draw from. Thus, it’s passive.
The
Earth abides. We alter it, farming and tilling the soil. This helps
sustain and nourish our bodies. For this reason, we associate Earth with
the human experience of embodiment. It corresponds to the physical facts of our existence. It also calls to mind the constant, unchanging features of reality.
We associate Earth with prosperity and fate, fertility and growth. These are concepts dependent on nourishment.
They’re
also constant features of life! You might even say that Earth is the
“closest” element to humanity. It has a lot of depth, and you can spend
much time working with it. In the Tarot, the suit of Pentacles represents Earth. It displays the range of material conditions of humanity. A trite description might say this suit just refers to finances.
It’s
actually more complex than that! Pentacles are actually one of the more
difficult suits. This is because so many people try to reduce it to
money matters. Really, the Pentacles speak about all physical things. This includes both nourishment and fertility.
Going Further
I mentioned this in the previous article, but I’ll say it again. I think it’s important! The elements are actually arbitrary categories of human existence. They are powerful because as they act as symbols.
Symbols allow witches and magicians to make connections. They allow us to tap into larger forces at work in the universe!
These connections allow us to create change in conformity with our individual Wills. In other words, they make magick possible! I hope this article gave you a good foundation for studying the elements.
In
reality, you could spend your entire life focusing on their magick.
Many witches even spend a long time focused on a single one! There is a
lot of complexity here!
The elements can interact in interesting ways. There’s also tons of ways to connect with them for spell work! I hope you all have a wonderful day, and that your lives are full of wonderful magick!
Kind
of want to do a third part in this series though I only planned for
two. It would be about mercury, salt, and sulfur and how they relate to
the elements.
I’ve
written a lot about the seven classical planets and celestial/cosmic
witchcraft. I think it’s time to bring things a bit more down to earth,
though! This is a new two-part series! It will focus on the natural elements as understood by the Western Magical Tradition.
In
today’s article, I’ll be explaining a bit about the history of these
concepts and how I see them. I hope you find this interesting and
informative!
Thinking About the Elements
Elements are one of the first concepts I learned when beginning a journey into witchcraft.
But! How do we view the elements as concepts? Lets consider how they relate to us and the whole universe. Here’s my views!
Some believe the elements are simply words for natural phenomena. In
other words, Fire is fire - the burning of a campfire or candle, or
another flame. Water would always be something like a stream, the ocean
or other liquid. I don’t see it this way. They’re far more complex than
that!
The four elements stem the observations of ancient
philosophers. These thinkers guessed that these substances were the
building blocks of physical reality. Of course, they were wrong! In
reality, atoms comprise matter. Matter and energy, then, make up the
physical universe. We could associate four classical elements with the four states of matter. These
are solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. They’d correspond to earth, water,
air, and fire in turn. This is a very simplified view, though!
These
concepts were fundamental to the ancients. A wealth of lore has
developed around them. They have grown into complex metaphors for
aspects of the human condition. The physical manifestations of the
elements have become potent symbols.
They represent various
mental and emotional phenomena. Symbols are important in witchcraft. The
way I see it, all tools of the Craft are symbols used to connect with
larger forces that work within the universe.
The elements
themselves, and their attributions, are in fact, somewhat arbitrary.
This means that each of us will have a different idea of what each
element represents! There’s nothing wrong with this, though. The point is to use them as symbols. What they symbolize to you is your own business!
Qualifying the Elements
In the Western Magical Tradition, there are four core (classical) elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.
Some traditions do posit a fifth element
called the quintessence, also known as Spirit or Aether. This fifth
element stands apart from the other four, as it doesn’t behave in the
same way.
I’ll be focusing on these four, not on the
quintessence. Spirit as an element is a very large topic best suited for
its own series of articles.
Alchemical thinkers have placed these four into categories. . They’re quite useful for understanding the system. Each element is either “hot” or “cold,” as well as either “dry,” or “wet.”
This
doesn’t describe the physical qualities of the phenomena in question.
Rather, these terms are metaphors. They refer to the roles taken by the
concepts each element embodies.
Hot and Cold Elements
Hot elements are active in human existence.
They stand for concepts that penetrate and alter the world around them. An
outdated way of putting this would be to describe them as “masculine.”
This comes from historical stereotypes about gender. I tend to use the
term “active” to describe hot elements. That’s Fire and Air. Cold elements are passive and receptive.
They
represent concepts from which we draw nourishment. They are the
structure or substance that forms our mental landscape. The hot elements
tend to be the essence or organizing principle.
Cold elements are often stereotyped as “feminine.“ They are Water and Earth, both of which play a nourishing role in human existence.
Wet and Dry Elements
Dryness
as a concept within the Western Magical Tradition refers to a fixed
state. In other words, the dry elements are things that don’t often
change. These elements are full of stability. The key feature of a dry element is lack of intense motion. We can depend on the stable parts of our existence, represented by these elements.
The
dry elements are Fire and Earth. It may seem strange to call fire
stable, but it is a reliable source of warmth to us. It represents a
constant feature of human life. When we speak of wet elements, we mean the two elements that aren’t fixed.
In other words, elements that flow ,change and transform. It is the
concepts associated with these elements that drive the changes. They are
reliable, but only insofar as change, itself, is something to rely on! The wet elements are Air and Water.
Both are natural features that shift and flow through our lives. The
inclusion of Air as a wet element shows that these are metaphorical, not
literal terms. Much
more could be said about how people have described the elements
throughout time. The above image shows the alchemical view of how the
elements can combine to create secondary principles.
As you might guess, “fixed” and “volatile” here stand for what we’ve been calling “passive” and “active.” If you want to know more about these further topics, I recommend Robert Bartlett’s book, True Alchemy.
The entire concept of the elements is a metaphor, though. It’s a metaphor that can work for you. It can help with your Craft, and help you connect with the universe. I’ll be posting the next article tomorrow! In that, I’ll be discussing each element in detail.
Curious about auras? This article will hopefully explain the specifics of this peculiar phenomenon.
What’s an aura, anyways?
The
term aura refers to an individual’s subtle energetic emanations. Auras
aren’t visible to everyone, but plenty of people see them. They appear
as a sphere of light or color around the body.
The color, size,
brightness, and other features of the aura depend on the nature of the
person it belongs to. These things can vary based on mood. They can also
relate to metabolic factors, magical activity, and many other things.
Many New Age writers say that the aura is energy in the scientific sense. This is a common misconception. No physicist has ever measured anything resembling auras as they’re commonly understood.
A
few days ago, someone told me that they believed the aura was a human’s
magnetic field. This isn’t true. The magnetic field of a human doesn’t
act like an aura. It doesn’t change based on emotions or other things
like that.
Others say it is something electrical, or related to
quantum mechanics. The truth of the matter is that science can’t (yet)
measure the aura in any way. Many are skeptical about its existence for
this reason.
Still, many, many people have seen auras throughout
history. To me, it’s a real phenomenon. Science may not understand it
yet, but, for me, it’s real!
The energy that extends
beyond our physical bodies is called the aura. The word “aura” is
derived from Latin aere, meaning “air” or “gentle breeze.” The American
Heritage Dictionary defines the aura as “an invisible breath, emanation,
or radiation.” In metaphysics, the aura is seen as the human energy
field, that portion of the subtle body that radiates out beyond the
limits of the physical body.
Belanger, Michelle A.. The Psychic Energy Codex: Awakening Your Subtle Senses (p. 117). Red Wheel Weiser. Kindle Edition.
Some
gifted people see auras without trying. Also, many children see auras
in early childhood. Often, this ability, if not cultivated, disappears
as they grow up. Many magicians and witches develop the ability to see
auras.
This involves a great deal of practice and effort. It’s
worthwhile, but everyone is different. Not everyone will have the same
aptitude to see auras. Some people can see only a little bit of the
aura, like a vague mist. Others see brighter colors and light.
Everyone’s
aura is different, too! Most witches and psychics believe this extends
only few feet from the body. Size can and does vary, though. Some people
may have an aura of only several inches.
Others might have a
very large aura. Size, color, brightness, and other features change
throughout a person’s life. If you see a person’s aura at one point,
expect it to change within hours, if not minutes. This reflects how
dynamic people can be.
Auras in History
People have
observed and recorded auras throughout time. It appears in many pieces
of religious and spiritual artwork. Historically, auras are usually
shown emanating from the body of holy men and women.
Christian
artists often depict them surrounding saints. They appear in other
cultures, as well. Medieval authors referred to the light surround a
person’s head as the “aureole”. They called light around the body the
“nimbus.“ These authors called the whole aura the “glory.”
In
Scrying for Beginners, Donald Tyson writes about the auras shape in
artwork. While many modern seers refer to the aura as a sphere, the
ancients saw it differently. They believed that saints emanated two
spheres that overlapped.
The glory is sometimes
depicted in religious art as the vesica or vesica piscis, a lens-shaped
figure formed by the overlap of two equal circles that pass through each
other at their centers. Christ, the Virgin Mary, and other saints are
often painted within this pointed oval, which is also called a mandorla
(from the Italian word for “almond”).
Donald Tyson. Scrying For Beginners (For Beginners (Llewellyn’s)) (p. 200). Llewellyn - A. Kindle Edition.
During
the occult revival of the late 19th and early 20th century, many people
wrote about the aura. Theosophists and other occultists developed
complex systems for understanding it.
Madame Blavatsky and Walter
Kilner believed there were distinct layers to the aura. They named them
and sought to understand them.
As science merged with occultism,
seers began to look for ways to measure the aura. There have been plenty
of attempts. None were particularly fruitful.
Of note is “Kirlian
Photography.” Symon and Valentina Kirlian developed this practice in
1940s Russia. It involves sending an electrical current through the
individual.
A photographic plate records the resulting discharge.
Later scientists argued that the image was more mundane. They believed
the interaction of this electric field and ambient moisture caused it.
Today,
most people seem to agree with that sentiment. Kirlian images recorded
don’t behave in a manner consistent with how seers perceive the aura.
For example, Kirlian images rarely change based on state of mind. Despite many attempts, science still doesn’t understand the aura! For that reason, most people relegate it to the realm of metaphysics and occultism. I don’t have a problem with that.
I
am supportive of science, but acknowledge that not everything is
currently known. As a witch, I do believe in magick, for example. Magick
itself isn’t understood or measurable by science. The aura isn’t, but I
still find the concept useful.
Seeing the Aura
Over time, it has been evident that people can
develop aura sight. I myself saw auras occasionally as a child. I did
not have further experiences with this until I began studying magick,
though. I don’t consider myself to have natural aura vision.
Still,
I see auras in certain circumstances these days. It’s something I
practiced and developed. While not everyone can develop this ability,
most people can! The level of detail you see will vary, but why not try?
Now, I’ll give you my own
method for inducing aura vision. It may or may not work for you. I have
read that many other people found these techniques helpful, though.
It
is best to begin by looking for your own aura. Some people do begin by
working with a partner, though. For me, aura vision comes best when I’m a
bit sleepy. I don’t have the focus for it when I’m completely
exhausted, but a little sleepiness works well.
I’ve found that
auras are easiest to see in a dim environment without bright artificial
lights. Natural light in the early morning or evening works best for me.
While some folks say candlelight works, I find that the flickering
distracts me. Some herbs and incense can help with aura sight. Herbal blends designed for psychic enhancement have worked well for me in the past.
My
favorite herb for inducing aura vision is mugwort. It is good for other
magical purposes, as well. Do some research and be careful if you
decide to try it, of course. Not everyone reacts well to herbs. Begin by focusing your vision on the edges of the body. This is regardless of whether you’re working by yourself or with someone else.
With
other people, I like to fix my vision above the top of the head. When
looking for my own aura, I extend my hand flat and at an angle. Then, I
gaze above my palm.
This is tricky, though. It takes a lot of practice. It works best for me if I look at the space close to the body, and try to ignore the body itself. It’s difficult, though. We’re used to looking directly at objects, not the area around them.
I
would suggest not wearing very bright clothing when attempting this.
That can be distracting. It’s also good to do this against a blank,
uncolored surface, like a white wall.
The aura will usually appear
first as a light shimmering in the air. This may have a wispy mist-like
appearance. It usually begins with a grayish color. Once you can see
this, focus on it, and not the object.
When you can see the aura
very close to the body, begin to glance around that area. After a time,
you will be able to see a larger, more diffuse part.
Aura Colors
While
many people can see auras, not everyone can see aura colors. This is
especially true for beginners. For those that don’t see colors, the aura
appears as that shifting, shimmering mist.
If color does appear
in the aura, focus on the color. It may seem to grow brighter and
brighter. Most seers agree that the colors correspond to the nature of
the person at that specific time.
Some books will list “color meanings” for the aura. My view is a bit different. Aura colors do have meaning, but, to me, a given color’s meaning depends on the seer.
If you associate yellow with happiness, seeing a yellow aura would show that the subject is happy. We don’t all process color the same way!
We tend to absorb cultural associations for certain colors. Still,
everyone has a different view. Keep this in mind when reading the aura!
Conclusion
I hope this article provides a good beginning for potential aura seers! Developing aura vision is fun and exciting. You can learn about a person (and how to connect with them!) by examining their aura.
It
can also be helpful for witches and magicians. It’s a good first step
to seeing all kinds of subtle forces. If you can see them, it’s easier
to connect with them! Anyways, I hope you’re all having a great day. May your magick be glorious!
