Call upon cosmic familiars

A cosmic or celestial familiar could be: stars, planets, nebulae, constellations, essentially any cosmic object you feel helps guide you. It could be anything you want, including the little Pokemon, Cosmog here.
This spell is to either help you find your familiar or strengths your bond with them. All you need is a pen, paper and clear quartz.
๐ŸŒŒ Write your intention on a piece of paper. Here is an invocation I use:
Creature of cosmos,
Calling supernovae and star nurseries
May my cosmic companion find me
Stay by my side and guide me
๐ŸŒŒ As you write, repeat the words in your head or allowed and continue to do so through out the night.
๐ŸŒŒ Wrap the paper around a clear quartz (any blue or purple crystal should suffice).
๐ŸŒŒ Place it outside over night under the stars, preferably on the night of a new moon.
๐ŸŒŒ Over night your familiar will hear the call you’ve made and reveal itself to you. This could be in a dream or a feeling you have throughout the day.

SELF-REFLECTION SPREAD

SELF-REFLECTION SPREAD
I mostly use tarot as a tool for personal introspection. Even people who don’t believe in divination of any kind can use tarot as an aid to explore different perspectives to a situation or even their own psyche. These are some things which I believe I need to confront about myself before achieving any real personal growth.
1. FIXATE
What are the parts of yourself or your life that you tend to get hung up about. Confronting yourself can be good, but overly obsessing on a particular problem or aspect of yourself can inhibit growth.
2. IGNORE
Conversely, what do you tend to push to the side. This can go both ways: some are unable to see the good things in themselves or their lives, while others gloss over their faults and avoid addressing their problems.
3. FALSE
What are the things we think to be true about ourselves, or our lives that are not. These are often negative qualities, a lot of people think they are less capable, less deserving or less worthy than they really are.
4. DECIPHER
What about ourselves have we yet to understand. Everyone has some things about themselves which they don’t yet fully grasp or cannot quite put to words.
5. WANT
What do we most want from ourselves and our lives. The things we wish were more true about ourselves or that we aspire to be. This is a long process to achieve, and part of that is learning that we can’t just skip to this step, we need to deal with the other parts of ourselves too, including the undesirable parts, before we can achieve true personal growth.
Note: Tarot is not a substitute for professional counselling and other forms of licensed therapy! Feel free to use it as a complimentary practice (unless otherwise advised), but do not rely on it as your sole means of treatment if you believe you need professional counselling.

Herbal Remedies Tips

So I’m co-owning a blog with a friend @thesmoldragoness called @abc-herbal. We are posting herbs and their uses. However, here are some tips:
๐Ÿdo you’re research. Seriously. Some things may effect your body and you will need to know.
๐ŸŒธDo not believe everything herbal/green witches recommend you for remedies. Especially if they A) have not gone to med school B) do not give you warning about its effects or if it’s toxic. I’ve seen it happen.
๐ŸSt Johns Wort, Mugwort and Valerian are toxic if someone recommends these herbs to you then please ask them why. Or do not trust them. Again. I’ve seen people recommend these
๐ŸŒธALWAYS ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF A HERB IS SAFE FOR YOU! They know way better about your health than some random person on Tumblr.
๐ŸYour Doctor is best to help. Even if you feel pills will effect your “witchcraft” it won’t. Seriously.

The Pathway of the Two Serpents.

The Pathway of the Two Serpents.

Gold Solar Serpent and the Black Lunar Serpent are alchemical opposites with different paths through the alchemical container of the body. When they meet, the Marriage of the Sun and the Moon takes place and this is when there is a possibility of immense energy. When the two serpents reach the crown, they become known as the Uraeus, which anoints the higher brain centres and leads to increased intelligence.

As they ascend, they crisscross one another to form nodes at each chakra, and magnetically energise them, as they go. The chakras spark into life as each one is touched in this alchemical weaving dance. In this way, with the interwoven pattern, the two serpents create what’s called the Central Column or Central Pillar. Eventually the two serpents reach the crown and then the hypothalamus, which is visualised as a Chalice.

Grief Vessel

Grief Vessel

A jar spell to help process loss and connect to a loved one in Spirit World
You will need:
  • jar
  • rosemary
  • chamomile
  • lavender
  • salt
  • earth***
  • crystals***
  • taglock***
  • letter to loved one***
  • spell candle***
  • various herbs***
***Due to the nature of this spell, some of the components require personalization. I made this jar in remembrance of my mother who passed away when I was a girl. Some of the items used in this spell correspond specifically to her, so I will explain what they are, and why I included them. Hopefully this will give you a clear idea of how to select personalized spell components.
Earth:
I included cemetery dirt from my mother’s grave, as well as sand from our favorite beach. If you’re unable to access dirt from your loved one’s grave, consider adding earth from your garden, a potted plant, or a favorite place that you shared with them. Please DO NOT use unethically sourced grave dirt.
Crystals:
I included amethyst and bloodstone as the main components, as well as clear quartz, milk quartz from my mother’s favorite beach, and rose quartz because I associate it with her. For crystal correspondences,  @cosmic-witch has an excellent post on crystals in death magick that can be referenced here.
Taglock:
If you’re unfamiliar, a taglock is an item that creates a magical link. It’s an object that is connected to the individual who is the focus of the magical work at hand. I added an angel pendant gifted to me by my mother when I was a little girl. You can use any item you like as a taglock, as long as it facilities a connection between you and the person you are remembering. If no taglock is available, crafting a sigil to add in their honor would be a wonderful alternative.
Letter:
I chose to include a letter to my mother. I was abused by her while she was alive and really needed to express my forgiveness. This was very cathartic and helped me release some of the resentment I had built up towards her. It’s not a necessary spell component, but a very healing one that I highly recommend adding if it suits you.
Spell Candle:
This spell does require a candle. I chose a magenta colored candle because it reminds me of my mother and her love of vibrant pink roses. I inscribed the planetary seal for Pluto on the candle because my mom was a Scorpio ruled by that planet and Pluto is associated with death and the underworld. I recommend choosing a candle color you positively associate with your loved one. Inscriptions aren’t necessary, but consider adding sigils, planetary seals, and symbols for added intent.
Various Herbs:
For this spell, I chose three base herbs; rosemary, chamomile, and lavender. I also added rose petals because they were my mother’s favorite flower, motherwort because it corresponds to motherly protection, and lemongrass because the scent reminds me of gardening with my mom. You are free to just use the base herbs called for, but it’s nice to add herbal correspondences that relate to you and your loved one.
Casting the Spell:
Though it’s not necessary, I recommend casting this spell on the evening of a full moon. That way the vessel can be set out to charge in the moonlight.
Once you’ve decided on your personal correspondences and gathered all your components, layer your items in the jar in whatever manner you see fit.
Light your spell candle and use the wax to seal your vessel. Say aloud or in your mind:
Your soul is eternal and lives on in the memories I hold dear. This vessel is an anchor for your spirit, reminding me that you are always near.
Once the jar has been sealed and the incantation recited, your vessel is complete and can be displayed on a favorite altar or shrine.
This was very healing and I feel so much more connected to my mother’s spirit after performing this spell. I hope it’s able to facilitate the same healing for you!

Remember

Higher vibrational people will always cross paths with other higher vibrational people. You become a target for those harbouring dark energy and strange vibes when you’re vibrating in a lower state. Negative people are always hiding in the shadows ready to approach you when you’re at your weakest and most vulnerable. Spend more time practicing ways to raise your vibrations and aim to be a source of light and good energy.

Ethical Foraging - The Do’s and Don'ts - Guidelines & Practices

Ethical Foraging - The Do’s and Don'ts - Guidelines & Practices

Foraging is something human beings have been doing since the beginning of time, but in the last two centuries or so this practice has fallen by the wayside at least as a mean for survival.
Recently this activity has seen a new resurgence in modern society as a way of communing with nature and finding more healty natural food and herbal medicine.
The term “ethical foraging” came into existence to describe the guidelines and rules foragers need to follow in order to eliminate the negative effect the harvesters of the past sometimes had on the natural surroundings.

A modified past/present/future Tarot Spread

A modified past/present/future, one I use when the original isn’t clear. To raise your view up. Lay this spread when you need a way to pull the gold from the muck, realize the diamonds in the rough. When you need to pull the important words from the noise.
  1. Past.
  2. Present.
  3. Future.
  4. Where you saw this lesson in your past. This card usually points to a specific person, place, event, or time.
  5. Where you can see this lesson in your present. This will clarify the most important cycle you’re in, one to devote some more attention to.
  6. Where you will see this lesson in your future. This card will give you something specific to keep an eye out for and nurture and learn from when the time arrives.

Psychic Tea

Get your water boiling, loves!
  • Add a Small sprig of rosemary
  • and a Sprig of peppermint
This is good for stimulating psychic powers. I like to drink some before I do any divination. It’s also good for clearing your mind and focusing before spell work. Both of these herbs are associated with fire, so let them warm and stimulate you while you enjoy your tea.

Toss Your Regrets Into The Wind: A Spell

This spell is actually inspired by something my tarot cards told me, to let go of the pain and hurt and let it be swept away. This is a powder you’ll scatter into the winds.
Ingredients:
Wormwood - for all of the bitterness and pain you’ve been holding in
Salt/salt water - to symbolize tears and sadness
Rosemary - to let go of the memories that hold you back
Ashes - to symbolize the things around you that have been painful and unsuccessful, the ways you’ve been burned
Rue (optional) - for regret (I don’t have any rue on hand right now, but it would be a fantastic addition to the spell)
Directions:
Blend your ingredients together in a small bowl. You don’t need to grind them up if you don’t want to. Mix them, and while you do, think about all of the sadness and pain you’re holding in. Pour out all of your emotions of what’s pent up and hurting. Think of the past hurts and wounds. Pour that sadness into this powder.
Stand outside. (Crossroads would be great for this, but not necessary.) Take your mixture and hold it in front of you. Call forth the elements as you see fit. If you work with spirits/deities, now would be the time to call on them to aid you in this spell. Take a handful of powder and toss it into the wind at one of the four cardinal directions.
If you like to speak during your rituals (I personally don’t, so feel free to skip this), say something along the lines of
To the North I toss my regrets
To the South I toss my sorrows
To the East I toss my sadness
To the West I toss my pain

May the winds carry them away from me
So shall it be.

As you toss your mixture into each direction, picture the wind blowing it away and carrying your sorrows and struggles far away from you. Take a deep breath, and let it all go.
Thank the directions and elements for their assistance and end the spell as you see fit. Then go do something to cleanse and love yourself as a way to welcome in hope and love in place of sorrow and regret. (Write out a list of goals, do a self love spell, etc. Lots of options here!) Take a deep breath, your problems have been blown into the wind!
Hope this helps!

feminine and masculine energies.

feminine and masculine energies.
the masculine and feminine. they are opposites, but there is a part of each within the other; both energies exist in all things.
  • for everything, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
  • energy is not created or destroyed, it is only changed.
this is to say, all energy is one and the same; expressing and manifesting itself through different lenses, in different forms.

the feminine.
moon.
earth.
empathy.
external.
value of others.
chalice.
existence.
tranquility.
allowance.
creativity.
silence.
the masculine.
sun.
heaven.
strength.
internal.
value of self.
phallus.
action.
strife.
control.
logic.
expression.

neither energy is more or less important or valuable.
  • if you have more empathy than strength, you bring harm unto yourself.
  • if you have more strength than empathy, you bring harm unto others.
  • what is expression without creativity?
  • what is creativity without expression?
balance is essential.

application to the craft:
most importantly, in my opinion, is learning that balance in all things comes first from balance within. this is something that can- and often does- take a lifetime to attain. to err is human, to err with one energy is natural. but finding an overall acceptance of both energies in and around your life can help bring understanding and peace.
use energies to inform intentions, to guide focus. a masculine intention may require more action in your thought, whereas a feminine intention may require more tranquility.
use the natural energies of elements and existences around you to help manifest your intentions. use the masculine or feminine phases of the moon to inform and amplify your intentions.

Necromantic Herbs: Plants of the Dead

There are a number of plants which can be extremely useful to the necromancer. Among these are the following.
Mullein: Erroneously described as a substitute for graveyard dirt, this in fact is a misconception. Known as the “Hag’s Taper”. The soft leaves are used as candle wicks and the dried stalks are soaked in beeswax or tallow to make a torch for rituals of necromancy. It is also burnt to see manifestations of spirits of the dead at night, to see into the Otherworld, and communicate with the spirits and deities that dwell there. Can also be used in talismans.
Wormwood: Used for summoning spirits and to help them manifest.
Cedar: The dried needles when smouldered serve both as a sustaining feast and call for the blessed dead, and the smoke is used to exorcise malevolent shades. The wood works for this purpose as well when turned into a fetish or as a staff.
Dittany of Crete: Used to aid in the manifestation of the spirits of the dead. Also has somewhat of a nasty reputation because of where it tends to grow. Harvesters tend to fall from the cliffs and crags where it grows and plummet to their death.
Aconite: Also known as Wolfsbane or Monkshood. Because of its incredible toxicity it is better to not to harvest it. If one has the dried root it can be preserved in order to serve as a tutelary spirit. Not to be used by amateurs.
Yew: Known in European countries as the Death Tree, it is a symbol of death, reincarnation, and longevity. Is planted in graveyards to protect the spirits of the dead. It can be used to banish malevolent spirits of the dead. Often associated with sorcery and dark magic. It is considered the sister of the Tree of Life, the birch.
Apple: Considered the food of the Irish dead and the inhabitants of the Otherworld. Can be added to incense blends to feed the spirits of the dead and ancestors.
Mugwort: Ingested as a tea to aid in divination and talking to the dead. Also boiled in water and, then the liquid is used to wash divination tools.
Copal: Serves as a offering to the dead and can be used to appease the spirits  who remain in states of trauma or confusion after death.
Willow: The wood of the willow is used in incenses and in the construction of fetishes dedicated to the dead.
Tobacco: May be presented as a herbal offering upon a ancestral altar or a grave in the form of a incense or sacramental smoke to honor the shades of the dead.
Cypress: The oil of this tree serves as a great addition to incenses and formula of the underworld.
Myrrh: The oil aids in all blends of a necromantic design. Can also be mixed into incenses.
Graveyard Mold: Technically no folklore or magical traditions associate this herb with necromancy of any kind. However I have included it here because I believe it can be used as a compound in necromantic incenses. Since it grows on graves it should contain some of the essence of the dead.
Mandrake: According to legend King Solomon carried a piece of this root in his seal ring to give him sovereignty over souls. Since one of its names is the “Little gallows man” it can be used as a poppet for laying curses of death, illness, pain, etc.
Birch: Petitions and blessings are written on the bark of this tree which is then burnt or buried in the grave of the spirit.
Bay Laurel: Used to communicate with the dead, possibly through use as an incense. Easily available in the form of bay leaves.
Chervil: Also known as garden chervil or “gourmet’s parsley” a tea or other drink made with it can be imbibed to aid in rituals of communion with the dead.
Lavender: Burnt as incense in order to bring peace of mind to the dead.
Marigold: Associated with funerals and used in funeral sprays.
Asphodel: In Greek legend is connected with the dead and the underworld. Sacred to Hades, Persephone, and Hekate. The roots were eaten by the poor of Greece and hence thought good enough food for the dead. Could be burnt as incense or the roots could be given as food offerings.
Thyme: Burnt as an incense helps ease the soul of a person who died a violent death.
American Sycamore: Known as “Ghost Trees” for their distinctive patchy appearance. Associated with the dead and poverty.Elder: In Norse mythology the tree is considered the Guardian of the Road to Hel (and thus sacred to Hela, Goddess of the Dead). Also associated with the ancestors.

๐ŸŒธ-Drink some herbal tea.

Remember, your witchiness isn’t based on your ability to practice all the time. It’s perfectly acceptable to take as long as you need when you aren’t feeling great.

Red Hands- A Curse for Thieves

Red Hands- A Curse for Thieves
This spell can go 1 of 2 ways: to return an item that has been stolen, or to curse the one who stole it if you know you won’t be getting it back.
  • Get a pair of roughly hand-shaped objects (gloves, ferns, maple leaves, etc.)
  • Mix some chili powder in with red paint.
  • Paint the hands red and say:
If wanting the item back
Thief, thief! You burn with guilt.
You are red with shame.
So you will suffer
until you return [item] to where it came.
If you just want a good ole curse:
Thief, thief! You burn with guilt.
You are red with shame.
So you will suffer
since you’ve taken [item] from where it came.
  • Let the paint dry as you think of what will happen to your target.
  • Dispose of the materials in the trash where they belong.

Creating an Herbal Apothecary at Home

Creating an Herbal Apothecary at Home

“Walking into an herb shop is like walking into a magical wonderland. I love the way it smells, the collection of curious labels and recipe books, and the endless line of herb packed jars sitting atop wooden shelves (and if you’re lucky some of them are actually labeled). Herb collections are like personal potion shops, with literally hundreds and hundreds of possibilities for formulas and remedies. I remember when I was 20, walking through Pike Place Market in Seattle, I went into a tea shop and was in total awe of the little place. Jars and jars and jars of teas, empty bottles, scoops and wooden spoons and tea pots lined every wall, not to mention the overwhelming aroma of the earthy, rosy, palpable tea filled air that encircled me. I had almost no idea where to start, but I knew I wanted something like this in my home one day. Over the next 10 years that followed, I will have seen a lot of herb collections - from little stores and shoppes to professional compounding dispensaries to at-home personal apothecaries. The array is always inspiring (and the herbalists that mind them are always so lovely), and it’s been such a joyful and slow process to continue to build my own at-home apothecary over the years.”
“When I started out in herbal medicine, I had pretty much nothing set up other than a few reference books, empty mason jars and a sparse supply of half empty tincture bottles. I would collect maybe one herb at a time, whichever herb I was focusing on and trying that week or that month. As the semesters went by and my materia medica arsenal built up, I acquired a few more and a few more until eventually I had what you might call a ramshackle home-apothecary filled with unlabeled jars, half used-dropper bottles and notebooks FILLED with un-indexed notes (I’d remember where and what it all was, right?). Usually yes, but I wouldn’t recommend that method on the regular.”
“Over the years, I’ve had lots of people ask me where to start when they want to cultivate their own home apothecary for their every day health needs and this makes me SUPER EXCITED. It’s so fun to create a little nook in your home with your remedies and herbs and spices and teas and tinctures to play with and actually use for good old fashioned preventative and acute care. Like I say - herbal medicine is amazingly simple and also amazingly complex. Starting your own herbal collection at home doesn’t have to be done in one fell swoop - it’s a process. A process depending on what you and your family’s needs are. I would break down what herbs to invest in by category and action, and then start trying them out yourself to see which are the most effective for you. Here are some basic botanical herbal actions to pick and choose from (although not nearly a complete list):”

Basic Energy Work Advice:

Basic Energy Work Advice:
  • Don’t expect to “see” energy in the way that a lot of people claim to do. Auras are particularly common as energy that can be “seen,” but sometimes feeling the energy works better.
  • Does it feel like an oil slick? Or a comfy blanket? What is your immediate thoughts about how this thing feels? Think through your perceptions (or say them aloud) without judging their validity, then when you’re done, go back and interpret what you saw.
  • The “color” of energy does not necessarily denote a specific universal meaning.
  • To clarify, I believe that energy colors that we perceive through metaphysical means are similar to symbols and signs – that they have individualized meanings dependent on your culture and personal belief system regarding color.
  • White is not always good; black is not always bad. Light does not mean holy or pure; dark does not mean demonic or evil. If your belief system posits white/light as good and black/dark as bad, then you will see the colors that way, but remember that it is not the case for everyone and you cannot project/enforce your color system onto strangers. (*cough cough stereotypical self-help chakra and energy books cough cough*)
  • It is vital to the practice that you believe what you are seeing/feeling is 100% true. Doubt will exist, but do not allow it to occur while you are doing your readings/interpretations. It will make you misinterpret information or it will change what you see. Leave your healthy dose of skepticism for afterwards, when you can calmly and rationally process what happened.
  • Practice! Visualization or feeling energy move through your body can help you be more aware of energy as a whole. It’s boring, but knowing what your own energy feels like can help you identify problems later on.
  • Don’t be afraid to use your body - hold your hand(s) out over parts, or visualize your hand over something to try and read it. Don’t be afraid to not use your body either - whether that means a wand or visualization or whatever works for you. Try out different methods and see what suits you.

Forgiveness spell

You will need to light your candle in a dark room and say this spell 5 times:

Peaceful remedies
Gone and destroyed
How I wonder
If I could reverse the clock
Back to the start
Where thunders will knock
I ask for forgiveness
From a friend or a foe
I have proved myself worthy
So let them know!

After you’ve recited it 5 times, blow out the candle and exit the room. Within a week’s time, your person/people of choice should forgive you. They may not befriend you again, but they will respect you and wish you the best. If they have caused previous trouble to you or held a grudge to you, it will stop.

May The Bridges I Burn Light My Path

Simple spell to weed negative people from your life:
Best time to do this: New moon
Tools: Incense, fire proof container, a hot shower
Take your incense to the bathroom and light them (if safe). While taking a shower, imagine the smoke and water working to cleanse you.
The water is washing away physical debris while the smoke is cleansing your soul. Now, think about the positive people in your life.
Compare how they’ve helped you to how negative people have brought you down. Think of how much better your life would be without the negativity.
Sometimes it’s negative thoughts instead of people. We want to burn those bridges as well.
The ashes from the incense can be saved for black salts.
