BATH MAGIC: WHERE TO BEGIN

Hey, MissPamelot here. Today we’ll be talking in depth about the practice of bath magic.
If you look around most traditional parts of the magical community, you’ll notice that bathing for ritual work or spell work is a fairly common practice. So what do I mean when I say that I specialize in bath magic? For me, bathing and witchcraft go hand in hand, and I do a ritual in the bath once a month at the very least. I’ve always loved the serenity and focus (not to mention complete selfishness) of taking baths, and so as I’ve grown into my craft it seemed like a natural place to draw magical energy. I find that the hot temperature of the water makes it very easy for me to get to a trance-like state (if not outright do trance work) and being naked in the water gives me a great place of vulnerability and rawness to begin any kind of spell work.  I also use bathing in our shared craft to begin most of our major rituals, and that entails doing a cleansing bath with a special kind of locally made bath salts that we have been using since the very beginning.
So what do my bath spells usually look like? To be honest, they vary a lot based on my resources at any given moment and the purpose of the spell. There are some things that I do every time such as:
 • dedicating the bath for myself by placing a talisman or crystal (or other object I carry a lot/feel represents me) on the rim of the tub
 • placing candles (often in corresponding magical colors and scents) around the tub and bathroom to add to the magical energy of the space
 • making sure the water drawn is hot enough to remain warm for 40+ minutes and get me to a trancing state but not too hot as to burn my skin or make it uncomfortable for me to be in the water
I also put something into the water every time I do bath magic, and in fact that is where I believe most of the magical intent is decided. This also widely varies with the type of spell. Some things I’ve done are:
 • just throw in a handful of Epsom salts for a super basic cleansing. I also use these (in addition to some other ingredients) when I’m doing a real trance or astral travel or trying to communicate with a deity because they make me feel floatier in the water and therefore easier to forget my body
 • put in a few drops of different kinds of essential oils based on their magical associations
 • drop in some tea bags (like mint or chamomile or bags I’ve already used first for drinking) while the water is running to get a good infusion
 • use bath salts that already have essential oils or herbs (or even glitter!) in the mixture.I use bath salts that I make myself, that T makes for me, and store bought and locally made mixtures, all with good results. It all depends on what I’m feeling at the time.
 • use pre-made bath bombs, melts, and bubblers from Lush (although I’m sure one could use stuff like this from anywhere) based on the ingredients and names of the products. I’ve used Sex Bomb for a glamour and sex spell, Space Girl for glamour and deity exploration (I do a lot of glamours), etc.
The practice of bath magic is great because we live in a society where bathing itself is so culturally charged to be reflective and purposeful. For that reason, it is also a great way to practice your craft that is not suspicious, or questioned by people you may live with. Even at their worst, taking long baths appears only over-indulgent. But I can live with that.

To rid yourself of negative baneful habits. After it has colored the water, step into it. Visualize yourself happily avoiding the habit. See in your minds eye all the energy you’ve been giving to this negative condition seeping out into the water. Pull the plug and sit in the tub until the water has drained out. Splash fresh water onto your body, washing away all traces. Repeat as needed.

Bath spell for menstrual cramps

  • A rose quarts crystal - for general pain relief
  • Feverfew [dried or fresh] - To regulate menses and reduce pain from period cramps
  • Lavender [dried or fresh] - Relaxation
  • Salt and a white candle - Purification
  1. The herbs, salt and crystal should be added to a warm bath (either loose or in a muslin bag).
  2. Allow them to impart their energies into the water
  3. Light the candle to purify the energy around the bath
  4. Soak in the bath for as long as needed until you feel better
  5. Thank the spirits of the herbs, crystal and fire for their help
A great idea for bath magic. A quick warning though, feverfew is considered “possibly unsafe” for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding so it is best to err on the side of caution. Feverfew can also trigger allergic reactions in those allergic to ragweed, daisies, and other wildflowers.

Sea Witch Bath

Maybe you’re a landlocked sea witch, maybe you’re looking for a setting to commune with your ocean deity, maybe you just feel like pampering yourself like a mermaid. We’ve got the bath spell for you.
First prep the bath mixture. You’ll need:
  • 1 part sea salt
  • 1 part epsom salt
  • 1 part kelp powder
  • ½ part baking soda
  • essential oil of rosemary
Combine all the ingredients in a jar, then charge the mixture under the full moon. Store with a piece of moonstone when not in use.
For the spell you’ll need:
  • the sea witch bath mixture
  • muslin bag or old pantyhose
  • variety of candles
  • sea related trinkets (i.e. seashells, sea glass, mermaid offerings, etc.)
  • jasmine or eucalyptus incense
Arrange your trinkets and candles around the rim of the bathtub, then light the incense and candles. While waiting for the bathtub to fill with warm water, place a cup of the bath mixture into the muslin bag or pantyhose and tie it shut. Make sure theres enough room in the bag for when the kelp expands. Drop it into the bath water, then soak until you feel you’ve absorbed all the energy out of the bath.
Enjoy your soak, all you lovely sea witches~

Midsummer (Summer Solstice)

Other Names: Litha, Alban Heruin, Mean Samhraidh.
Date: June 20, 21, or 22, depending upon the calendar. When the sun is at 1 degree Cancer.
Meaning of the Word: Litha means “moon”.
Primary Focus: Love, marriage, divination.
Age of Holiday: Counterpart of Yule; at least 10, 000 years old.
Popular Mythos: Primary festival of the Horned God, battle of Oak and Holly King (Holly King wins), Scandinavian Baldur (god of light), the descent of the God or Goddess.
Astrological Sign: 1 degree Cancer; cardinal; water.
Planetary Ruler: Moon.
In Aberdeen in 1745, a reverend wrote, “I never saw so many bonfires…” At Midsummer the sun is at the height of its strength and, as with the other quarter festivals, the main element used in popular custom was fire, which has especially strong roots with the Teutonic peoples (German, Norse, Scandinavian, and so on). Reports of bonfires on the hilltops and even in the streets were prevalent during European medieval times, and the celebration gave a great excuse for a major party.
They wore splendid costumes and carried pails of fire hung from poles. By the early sixteenth century the local parades had grown into one grand consolidated procession 4,000 strong, including the corporation and the livery companies and featuring morris dancers, model giants, and pageants. They carried so many torches that, according to a later writer, they released “A thousand sparks dispersed throughout the sky/Which like to wandering stars about did fly/Whose wholesome heat purging the air/consumes the Earth’s unwholesome vapours, fogs, and fumes.
In keeping with Teutonic magicks, water also features prominently in the Midsummer festival (fire and ice = fire and water), and whether we are talking to about the Greek Presephone descending into the underworld, Egyptian Isis going there to save Osiris, or Baldur’s descent into the lower words from Asgard, the theme of descent is extremely prominent in this festival. In the Craft, the descent is our journey into ourselves in an effort to see our inner being clearly and change the things about ourselves that we feel should be different or better. The second degree ceremony in many traditional groups is primarily about this type of descent and our desire to be the best that we can be.
In keeping with the ritual given here, the wheel itself was a major focus of public ceremonies and was often set afire, as well as the practice of gathering the dew of the morning (as on Beltane) for health and continued happiness. Again we see the elemental representations of fire and water. Branches of birch were also cut down and hung over the doorways to ensure protection of the household. A mixture of yarrow, vervain, fern, and St. John’s Wort was dried, powdered, and thrown into the fire. The length, breadth, and colour of the flames were consdiered before the future was foretold.

Magickal Ideas for your Beltane Sabbat Ritual

. Collect morning dew, use in Midsummer ritual, and empower for holy water.
. Begin your ritual at dawn.
. Work magicks for partnerships and unions.
. Incorporate the legend of the descent into your ritual.
. Study hex signs and paint one, adding its empowerment into your ritual.
. Build your own circle of stones.
. Glue eight candles cups to a wheel and use as a centrepiece for your ritual. Empower each candle for special wishes or overall good fortune.
. Midsummer is a solar holiday that recognizes the passage of Gemini, a mutable air sign, into Cancer, a cardinal water sign. It is the one solar holiday that strives to melt the outside world in which you function to the workings inside your family environment.

MABON BATH

Mabon marks the beginning of Autumn, and what better way to celebrate cooler weather than with a warm and healing bath. Ideal as both a pre-ritual bath or the main magical event of this Sabbat, this mixture brings healing, protection, and spiritual opening.
Ingredients:
  • 1 part oatmeal
  • 1 part powdered milk
  • 1 part sea salt
  • dried calendula petals
  • dried chamomile flowers
  • frankincense essential oil
  • myrrh essential oil
Place oatmeal in food processor or blender and blend until it becomes a powder consistency (conversely, buy it in powder form). Transfer to a separate container. Mix in equal parts powdered milk and sea salt, then add roughly 1 teaspoon of each dried flower per cup of mixture. Drop in essential oils to desired fragrance strength.
Draw a warm bath the night of Mabon and add in at least one cup of the mixture to the water. Add plenty of candles, spicy incense, and fall colors to the space to set the mood. While in the bath, meditate on the coming darkness and ask your deity or the elements for protection.

AUTUMN FAERIE SPELL

Purpose: To welcome autumn faeries and to receive their wisdom.
Materials: A bathtub; water; candles in autumn colours (red, gold, yellow, brown, and orange); chrysanthemum flowers (stick to earthy colours, like that of the candles); bread an honey for the offering afterwards (this can be changed to whatever offering you wish to give).
This spell should be done…: On the first new moon of autumn, or any new moon in autumn. At night. On a Wednesday. Remember, these are just suggestions and not requirements (however, the first new moon of autumn is really important to this spell).
Instructions:
Draw yourself a hot bath. Light the candles all around, and sprinkle the chrysanthemum blossoms in the water. You may want to add essential oils that remind you of autumn in the water, or put on some music. It’s also important to note that you may want to cover up any mirrors, as faeries tend to shy away from them.
Get into the bath. Relax. Ground and centre if needed. As you soak, call upon the faeries of the changing trees and autumn blossoms:
“Sprites of changing seasons, teach me
To face life’s changes gracefully.
Beauty that comes in many forms
Remains as lovely as it transforms.
Dear faerie folk, I embrace your wisdom
As I watch the changing seasons.”
Feel the beauty of the earth all around you. Relax, and let your mind wander. Listen for voices. Pay attention to any strange thoughts that don’t feel like your own. Allow yourself to open up, and welcome in messages. You may have a few realizations or tiny epiphanies (likely regarding change, transformation, beauty, and moving on).
Once you’re ready, say:
“Thank you, spirits of the Fae,
as you return to your realms,
harming none along the way.”
Get out, dry off, strain the blossoms out, extinguish the candles, and drain the tub. Make sure to go slowly with these tasks. I often find myself light-headed after a spell, and the hot water makes it worse. If you find yourself dizzy, have chicken noodle soup or something high in sodium, as this will help your blood pressure. If it’s your blood sugar, have a glass of fruit juice.
Make sure to leave an offering of bread and honey outside (in the garden is best) and way of thanks. Do not say the words “thank you”, as this can be misconstrued and they may take offence, and such words belittle what they’ve given you. Instead, say something like, “I appreciate your gift to me. This offering is for you to enjoy.”

HALLOWEEN LUSH BATH MAGIC

image
Now that LUSH has released their 2015 Halloween line up, we’re going to tell you how the two laziest witches you know will be magically using these cute products.
1. Lord of Misrule – this decadent bath bomb has two clear magical uses. The first is protection, because of the peppercorn, and the second is drawing love, because of the patchouli and vanilla. This would make for a great spell before a costume party if you’re single and ready to mingle (and want some protection from creeps). Also available in a shower gel
2. Sparkly Pumpkin – we are suckers for glitter, and especially in magic. This bubble bar has two citrus essential oils to pack a cleansing punch, and then juniper berry oil and gold glitter to bring in the money flow. Bathe with this beauty to help your finances, or just to feel like witchy royalty.
3. Nightwing – undoubtably the cutest shower jelly you’ve ever seen, this lil’ guy can be charged to help fight off cold weather blues. Aloe can help keep away feelings of loneliness, and lime promotes tranquility and strengthening love. Use this in the shower if the holidays stress you out, school is taking a toll on your mental health, or the dreary weather keeps your down.

SIMPLE PURIFICATION AND PROTECTION SCRUB

You need to purify, but you’re short on time. You need it to be quick, but just as effective as a ritual bath. Look no further than our Purification and Protection Scrub.
Materials:
  • sea salt
  • coconut oil
  • essential oil of lavender
  • lemon rinds
Combine the salt mixture and coconut oil in a 2-to-1 ratio and stir. The salt should stick to itself without excess oil pooling at the bottom of the container. Then sprinkle in some fresh lemon rinds and add in one drop of lavender essential oil.
Sea salt, coconut oil, and lavender purify and protect; lemon is a strong purifying and cleansing ingredient.
In the shower, first massage the scrub over the skin in a counterclockwise motion while visualizing the coconut oil drawing negative energies from the body and the sea salt sloughing them away. Then, massage the scrub in a clockwise motion while visualizing the coconut oil and lavender forming a protective barrier on the skin.
Note: Because salt can often be irritating on the skin, we do not recommend using this scrub on the face and should be limited to body use only.

Natural Exfoliants!

Why should you exfoliate?
Exfoliating is an important part in caring for your skin. Our bodies create new cells on the skin’s inner layer called the dermis, and as they form, we naturally shed the old, dead cells that are pushed to the outer layer called the epidermis. But sometimes they can remain for too long, making your skin look dull and causing impurities. Exfoliating once or twice a week (I like to in the shower because it’s quick and convenient) can assist the natural shedding process in removing dead cells, rejuvenating, smoothing softening and toning your skin. It helps removes debris and dirt that can clog your pores and cause acne, blemishes or even ingrown hairs. Any and all skin types can exfoliate with the right (natural) ingredients! Sensitive, oily or dry!
Why natural ingredients?
Simple! Using natural ingredients on your skin is a much better alternative to using products that contain harsh and harmful chemicals that can irritate and even worsen your skin. Bonus points when the ingredients are organic and/or vegan (thus being cruelty free as well!) This way, it’s better for you, your skin, your body, the environment…and your wallet, since you probably have a lot of this stuff in your house already!
Here are some good, natural ingredients for your skin!
Good things for your skin!
Honey -
  • Antiseptic: Anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal.
  • Helps reduce skin infections and fight acne.
  • Full of antioxidants.
  • Helps you skin protect and repair iteself.
  • Reduces inflammation.
  • Speeds up natural exfoliantion process.
  • Humectant properties so it attracts moisture to your skin and helps hydrate it.
Yogurt -
  • Contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid, but is mild enough to use on any skin type.
  • The acid can help even out skin tone.
  • Hydrates and exfoliates.
  • Skin smoothing and soothing properties.
Apply to skin, let sit for 20 minutes, rinse.
Sugar -
  • Good for all skin types.
  • Natural source of glycolic acid, another alpha hydroxy acid, that is good at breaking down the protein holding dead skin cells to the epidermis.
  • Boosts new skin cell production.
  • Smooths and softens skin.
Mix 1 teaspoon of sugar with ½ teaspoon honey. In circular motions, gently massage into your skin and then rinse well.
Mix about one half cup of sugar, white or brown, with enough oil (olive, grapeseed, sunflower, coconut, jojoba – whatever you prefer or have on hand!). Again, in circular motions, rub onto skin and rinse. Works for your body as well :)
Oatmeal -
  • Gentle exfoliant (perfect for sensitive skin when ground up! but can also be used whole)
  • Anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Natural moisturizer, hydrates skin.
  • Absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities.
  • Soothes and heals acne, sunburns, dry skins and more.
Grind one cup of oatmeal in a blender, food processor or by hand with a mortar and pestle (or some other way, just grind it up somehow) and mix together with one cup of plain yogurt and two tablespoons of honey. Stir until it becomes a smooth paste and apply to face. Leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Mix 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal with ¼ teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of oil. Rub onto face and then rinse.
Papaya-
  • Contains the enzyme ‘papain’ that dissolves old dead cells, but doesn’t harm younger, new ones.
  • It’s believed that this enzyme can heal heal the skin, causing lines and age spots to vanish.
  • It’s most potent in young, green fruit.
  • Keeps your skin hydrated.
Mash one and use it as a facial mask!
Ground Coffee -
  • Just as it perks you up, it serves as a skin stimulant.
  • Potent exfoliant.
  • Helps tone the skin.
  • Contains caffeic acid which has anti-inflammatory properties and can boost collagen production.
  • Good fresh or used!
Stir together two cups ground coffee with one cup sea salt and two to three tables spoons of oil. Wet your face with warm water (not hot!) to open your pores and then, in circular motions, rub onto skin and then rinse!
Sea Salt -
  • One of the best and most powerful exfoliants, especially for dry skin.
  • Full of trace minerals that rejuvenate your skin, stimulate cell growth and help moisturize.
  • Natural detoxifies your skin.
Mix with oil, rub onto wet skin in circular motions and rinse. This works well all over your body!
If you don’t have oil, you can just use water. Oil just doubles as a moisturizer (and each oil has it’s own beneficial properties). If you make a big enough batch of a scrub, you may want to store it in a glass container in the fridge! Of course these can be doubled or made smaller, just keep the proportions relatively the same :)
I am no expert, this is just information I have gathered over time of learning about natural alternatives. If you have a serious skin issue, seek medical attention please.

5 Ways to Make Your Shower Magical

So, you don’t have a bathtub or the time to take an arduous bath. You’d like to do something mood-lifting and positive but honestly feel a little lazy (and maybe a little gross, too). The good news is, you can still be indulgent and just as magical with a good shower.
1. Make DIY shower disks with various herbs and essential oils. Not only will the steam improve your health, but the ingredients can have magical properties as well.
2. Steep the herbs you would put in your bath in a pail of warm water and rinse yourself with the brew post-shower. Many herbal rinses also offer tons of benefits for the skin.
3. Choose soap with intent. You can use bar soap (either DIY or store-bought) or handmade body wash. Looking to be energized? Try a minty eucalyptus soap. Need to unwind before bed? Go with a chamomile and lavender wash. Be sure to use ingredients that match your purpose!
4. Use a purposeful body scrub. Rub away bad energy and dead skin with recipes for purification and protectionenergystopping gossipglamourrecovering from violation, preventing unwanted touchingremoving bad energyromanceself loveluck, or create your own recipe.
5. Finish it off with a body oil post-shower. In addition to their various skin benefits, different oils have different mythological, magical, and aromatherapeutic connotations. Use coconut oil or olive oil for purification and protection, almond oil for prosperity, apricot kernel oil or avocado oil for love, or sunflower oil for energy. Add a drop of an essential oil for even more magic.

LUSH HOLIDAY 2015 BATH MAGIC

image
LUSH bath products are a godsend because as much as we love bath magic, we love being lazy (and glitter) even more. Here are our magical suggestions for the holiday lineup this year:
1. Stardust –  Bergamot brings success, and vanilla increases passion. Bathe in this beauty for a boost in the realm of your career, or to keep your resolve strong all through finals.
2. Snow Angel – The ultimate bath melt for all your friendship needs. Benzoin soothes irritability, while rose and acacia strengthen loving friendships. Gift this to you bff who needs some relaxing bath magic.
3. The Magic of Christmas – Every witch needs a wand, and this bubble bar is guaranteed to bring beauty and $$$ because of a powerful mixture of almond, orange, cinnamon, and clove oils.
4. Bar Humbug – Fennel is an effective healer, and tarragon is particularly good at mending trauma from abuse. With the added protection of bergamot, bathing with this bubble bar can dig into deeper restorative magic.
5. Holly Golightly – The one holiday bubble bar to rule them all. Patchouli and cinnamon are great for love and money, clove stops gossip, benzoin brings calm and dispels negativity, and orange blossom increases attractiveness. If you only have time to do one bath spell this season, this is our recommendation.

Christmas Spice Bath Bombs

cute christmas bath bomb recipe from humblebeeandme!
enchant for cleansing and prosperity!!
cute Christmas bath bomb.
enchant for cleansing and prosperity!!

2/3 cup citric acid
½ cup Epsom salt
1 tbsp Turkey Red Oil
Mister filled with witch hazel
Place a few spoonfuls of baking soda in your DIY coffee grinder, and add the hibiscus powder and essential oils. Blend to combine. Once blended, mix it in with the rest of the baking soda and stir in the citric acid.
In a small bowl, stir the Epsom salt and Turkey Red Oil together thoroughly. Sprinkle the mixture over the baking soda and citric acid mixture and stir to combine.
Now it’s time to add just enough liquid to get the mixture to hold together in a mold. Not too much, though, or it will react during the drying phase, not in your bath. That’s why we’re using a mister (it’ll spread the moisture better) and witch hazel (for some reason the reaction isn’t as vigorous when you use witch hazel, plus they dry faster, apparently).
So, spread your mixture out in your bowl so you have as much surface area as possible, and spritz. Then stir thoroughly. And repeat until you can grab a clump of the mixture and it will hold together after a firm squeeze.
Once the mixture will hold together, pack it into a mold of your choice (I like a 1/3 cup measuring cup), and then tap it out onto a sheet of wax paper. Let dry overnight, turning once.
To use, drop in a hot bath and enjoy!
I chose Turkey Red Oil because it self-emulsifies in water, meaning no weird floating blobs of oil in your tub, or oil slicks afterwards. If you don’t have it feel free to substitute any liquid carrier oil like sweet almond, grapeseed, safflower, or olive.
Makes eight 1/3 cup bath bombs.
